Default 7 or 5 series screen? How do you tell?

I've read about the different model screens and the better contract etc on one.

How do you find what model you have?

When you are in phone mode type in *3001#12345#* then press call. You will be directed to the field test menu. Tap "Version" and you will find the LCD serial that starts with either 5 or 7. Mine is a 5

It's proberly the granularity of the pixel and such which has been mentioned before by some people. It was noticed one iPhone showed strange lightning in extrem positions which others showed not.
I guess its not real a version more a manufactor flag.

5XXXX and 7XXXX are not model numbers, they indicate different LCD manufacturers (which is unknown at this point).

Also, 5 series seems to be better than 7 series. People reported that 7 series tend to display polka dots problem and is less bright than 5 series.

the screen manufacturer as far as i've seen/read is Epson. Dont know if both 7 and 5 are made by them. anyone know of a 2nd mfr?

Mine is a 7x and i have heard the same thing, that the model is newer but had a tendency to show dots. mine doesnt and is really bright...i can't tell because have never seen a 5x.

*3001#12345# no longer works here. It did once. Has the number been changed?

No, it isn't Epson. One screen manufacturer is the german company BALDA, the other one is SHARP. I don't know which manufacturer produces the 5 series and which one produces the 7 series display but since BALDA jumped in pretty late because apparently SHARP wasn't able to meet Apple's demand/deadline, I assume that the higher number 7 is actually for the BALDA display. BALDA is one of the major cell phone components manufacturer worldwide.

You forgot a little something at the end of the last number.
