Default 3GS support being stomped on

I know this is protected forum and any warez or copywrite infrigements are frowned upon, in fact illegal, but sometimes I think the moderators go too far and i have noticed so much inotlerance on this site that it is now becoming less and less viewed or added to. There are multiple threads where noobs are simply stomped on and told to search, read stickies and the thread closed that I feel it is becoming an obsession of someones to make the entire site their own little place. I for one expect to find this thread 'closed' immediately after psoting because he is moderating 24/7 and jumping on everything anyone says. He has a wealth of knowledge but seems to prefer using it to DOWN people rather than actually help them (I may even be barred for this post) but for goodness sake, please let people post and get a reply from someone else other than YOU! This used to be an open forum, it is now simple one or two mods inflicting their own whatever upon the unsuspecting. I will now be told I am not even in the correct area for this post - fair enough, but the OP was in here so if you do not delete it your could perhaps move it :-)
Take care and read the last post that made me vent!

    iPhone 3GS 3.1.2 won't start

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I have an iPhone 3GS (OS 3.1.2) that was jailbroken about 6months ago using BlackRa1n.

I have been using it ever since without any problems, until yesterday. Just after the recent Rock update (and also some other contents included) I did a soft-reboot through Rock (the one that automatically starts after major updates) and everything worked fine. I then wanted to do a manual reboot a couple of minutes later (after updating appulous and noticing it did not work, which I later found out to be because of the service being shutdown). The iPhone turned off normally without any problems but when I tried to start it, it just turns itself off after about 8-10seconds of start-up.

I have no real clue what might have caused this problem, and I would like to ask for different ways of managing this problem. I would obviously prefer to fix it without losing applications, contacts and all the other data (my backup is about 4months old and I currently do not have access to it). I have also tried charging it during startup, but the start still aborts.

How do I fix the phone?
    Best regards, Faithless

You know, you just killed any chance of getting useful support on this forum. We don't welcome pirates here - "warez is stealing".

Plus you use Rock which is probably the cause of at least half your problems the current irc #iPhone topic says: "DONT USE ROCK, FOR GODS SAKE!". Rock is a developer's nightmare and the source of many screwed up iPhones for end-users.

I wish we could help, but the rules are very clear about warez.

You are a knowlegable and informed person, and you do a great job here most of the time but I have to post here as well as in the 3GS forum to let you know my feelings.
For some time I have noticed that you are stomping on noobs, closing threads and making it an uncomfortable place to be. this used to be a fairly open forum where noobs were tolerated (even if it was irritating when they asked easily answered questions) but I have to say that the amount of stomped on questions closed after the ubiquitous 'search' or 'been answered multiple times' is beyond belief. I for one do not mind answering noob questions if given a chance but since you are here 24/7 stomping around noobs just jump ship and never return. You must realise this means the forum is becoming narrow and restricted beyond anal where it will simply disappear up its own passage.
Please leave things be for a few hours, nay a day or two before pouncing and closing threads even if they infringe your own scruples. Copywrite infringments are bad and Apple will jump on them, but there is a place and a time for you other stomps.
A great forum being ruined I wholeheartidly feel. Peace be with you as you close this thread or delete it.
    xxx

I respect your comments. It is the moderation policy to either merge or answer & close duplicate threads. I do try and merge threads where possible or provide links to relevant threads before closing.

You are right, I am fast to reply and close. Not sure if that is a bad thing or not. When I only read threads but don't provide any answer, most of the time they remain unanswered. Would you prefer a forum that is full of one post unanswered threads?

For the past few months the situation has been static (no new jailbreak or unlock) and the warnings about updating have been the same for years now.
This creates the situation where we can't help many users who have upgraded to a non jailbreakable or unlockable level. It becomes difficult to provide more than a standard answer and close the thread.

Have merged your threads because they really are the same topic.

With regards to warez - the moderating policy is clear. The reason jailbreaking has survived without legal threat from Apple is that the dev team has been very careful to not distribute any apple files.

This forum has the same policy for similar reasons.

Regarding the 3GS support being stomped on. There is a clear sticky for 3GS bootloop problems - most of which are caused by blacksn0w. The only other standout issue I have heard about is that having an outdated version of system-cmds (which is a core package) Twitter / Jay Freeman (saurik): @alfredolema @ronaldsb Yea ... can cause the filesystem to be out of sync. The best fix for this is to accept Cydia core-package updates often.

The remainder are often somewhat unique problems that are generally not possible to fix without physical access to the iPhone and a lot of skill. There are no "emergency repair/data recovery" tools let alone any that are end-user friendly.

The only area where such tools exist is in forensics and the latest documentation/tools are only available to sworn law enforcement personnel. What is publicly available lags significantly behind and generally lacks support for OS 3.x especially on the 3GS.

When we do try and help specific cases that can be solved, by the time we have made the custom IPSW with tweaked ramdisk often the user has already given up and restored to an OS that can't be jailbroken or unlocked. So our time is wasted.

If you have the patience and skills to help these users with their problems I will happily re-open the threads and let you help them.
