    Default 3 Hutchison - Invalid SIM - "nearly"anySIM doesn't work!

    Hi,

I'm a custumer of "3" Austria (Drei/Three Hutchison) and my SIM card doesn't work with my brandnew iPhone.
My iPhone is already unlocked with anySIM and I've tested it successfully with 2 other SIM cards from tele.ring (in the T-Mobile network) an A1 (Vodafone).

Just my f***ing SIM card from "3" Hutchison won't work with my iPhone
Obviously it's because of the USIM (UMTS-SIM) card, since "3" is a UMTS only network here in Austria.

Does anybody know, if there's a chance to change/copy/clone my card to use it with Apple's iPhone?
And has any other 3 customer in the world already a running iPhone?

    Thx in advance!

UMTS is just an evolved version of GSM, i donno why its not working, have u tried any other network which is UMTS only???

EDIT: Compared to GSM, the major difference of UMTS is the air interface. The air interface uses GRAN, or Generic Radio Access Network. This means it can be connected to a wide range of networks, such as the internet, ISDN, GSM, or to another UMTS network its self.

i think this might just be the reason behind ur problem...

nope. 3 is the only "UMTS only" network in austria. the other providers are GSM/UMTS combined ones.

Well, if I am not silly mistaken, UMTS is 3G!

iPhone doesnt have 3G, so you canīt use a 3G ONLY provider with iPhone. UMTS uses another MHZ band than "2G", so get yourself another provider

umts runs on a different frequency (2100) compared to gsm/gprs/edge (850/900/1800/1900).

    that's why it doesn't work.

greetings from linz (unlocked, running on A1)

You are right, normally it's 3G.

But 3 Austria has national roaming with A1 (which is working by the way) in places where no UMTS is available. So it's "2.5G" (GSM+Edge).
But maybe I really have to change my provider (still have more than 1 year contract ) ...

dude, that sucks! you might want to call 3 and ask if they can provide you some sort of sim card or service that let you just roam on A1s network, but that kinda sounds improbable since that usually costs 3 roaming charges

yeah, but you're not allowed to use the A1 roaming when 3 is available, so no luck for bigger cities and main traffic routes...
