    Default Some cool things

Here are some cool pics I got:

2.2 restore has an iPhone progress indicator:

Also I got a message telling me my iPhone was unlocked:

THIS IS NOT A "HACK" UNLOCK, MY IPHONE WAS FACTORY UNLOCKED FROM VODAFONE NEW ZEALAND. DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELVES. ALL I DID WAS UPGRADE THROUGH ITUNES BECAUSE I CAN AS I AM OFFICIALLY UNLOCKED. IF YOU ARE NOT OFFICIALLY UNLOCKED AND UPGRADE WITHOUT THE DEV TEAMS CONSENT YOU WILL LOOSE THE FUTURE ABILITY TO UNLOCK YOUR DEVICE (POSSIBLY)

I am not sure I understand this. Can you unpack? What did you do? Did you restore a stock 2.2 or a custom 2.2? What does 'unlock completed' refer to?

    Thanks

I live in New Zealand where the phone is unlocked from Vodafone, but I never thought that iTunes would display that message. I didn't think that iTunes did the unlock, the seczone should be completely lock free, so a factory baseband should see that without iTunes intervening.

**BTW thats not photoshopped, its a screenshot taken then uploaded straight to web.**

Also, seeing this made me feel kinda nice inside, since I have been using a 1st gen iPhone since the 1.0.0 days, and to see iTunes show me that message on my official 3G without me doing anything makes me laugh

yep, stock *restore* to apple firmware. I'm not suggesting any hacking here, I do jailbreak my 1st gen iphone but the 3G is clean. I just found it funny how normally unlocking is soo hard and the dev team is working on it now and its taking time and effort...
and iTunes, without me doing anything, simply says that I am unlocked lol Just makes me feel funny inside

Default Only for factory unlocked iPhones

Guys, this only happens to factory unlocked iPhones. Has done so since the beginning, even at firmware 1.x.
Remember, we had a few factory unlocked at firmware 1.x aswell (France, short period in Germany).
The unlock is done (sent) by the Apple server, iTunes just lets you know it is done.
Cause we have a couple threads on this: No, this wont help for an unofficial unlock, several hardware specific things are involved.

Important: Only for factory unlocked iPhones, DONT TRY THIS ON REGULAR 3G's.
The Dev Team has released a warning if you ever want to use an unlock that might come from the Dev Team, dont update.

(secret, could you add this to your post - a small warning...)

what about 2g iphones? do we have to wait for dev-team to release a new tool for unlocking(if the basband is upgraded) activating and jailbreaking?

Thanks, put some nice bold text in there.

I like the new Safari layout, much cleaner. Also, podcast downloads on the device is really cool
