I'm testing with Rogers right now and a 2.5G iPhone I updated to 2.0 and am trying to use the regular activation. It gets to the point where I accept the terms and conditions and I click accept and then it says it "Could not complete the iTunes Store request. The store may be busy" so I'm thinking that things look positive for it working, I'm thinking the iTunes server is still swamped. Can anyone confirm or deny this thought?

That's interesting. How old/new is your Rogers SIM card? Mine is probably 4 years old and iTunes says it's an invalid SIM. Does anyone know how to get a new SIM but keep my same phone number(on Rogers)?

Mine is about 10 months old. I got when I first got my 2.5G iPhone in September of last year. I think you can just to Rogers store or call Rogers and tell them your SIM is damaged and that you need a new one.

Thanks. It's too late to try and get one today so I can hopefully get a new one tomorrow to try out.

No problem, I just wish I knew if other people were having any luck with the activation process right now or if I'm banging my head against the wall!

I have a 1st firmware US iPhone (1 week post release). I was running 1.1.4 version. Updated to 2.0 today and had a Movistar pay as you go SIM on it. It told me right away that it was a SIM from a different carrier and I could not use it. I then changed to the AT&T SIM that came with it (no service enabled on it) it activated without any activation process.
I am though having a problem with any application that I download. The application starts until the opening screen and then goes back to the iPhone home screen. Everything else works fine (youtube, itunes store, maps...). Very annoying problem and I have tried to reset all settings but problem still the same. I am now wondering if I need the SIM activated.
UPDATE 1: Restored and it fixed the problem. Applications load fine now.

Well I still can't activate, I tried sticking my AT&T SIM in but it's asking all kinds of questions, etc. So I think we might be out of luck until PWNAGE 2.0. Time to bust out the ol' Samsung phone! I know you can downgrade but that's a lot of effort, I think we'll see PWNAGE soon enough.

BUMP! Any news on this? I would like to activate my 1st generation iPhone on Rogers with the 2.0 software and leave behind all the jailbreaking and everything. I don't have the time to keep worrying about my phone working. I just want it legit. I just wish i was upgrade eligible so i could get the 3G now...

This ONLY WORKS WITH 02 CUSTOMERS. You need to be in the UK with an o2 simcard which you plan to continue using or it wont work. Mods please change title of thread, its giving people a false idea.

I was wondering though... what if we used the firmware from the 3G phone on the 1st version. I'm aware that some people did this when the software was leaked. Would the phone then be recognized by iTunes to be activated with an iPhone 3G authorized carrier? Just a thought...
