hey guys, took a trek down to o2 store today and got blank sim. doesnt look like it works. im in same boat (having at&t phone operating in uk). we're stuck with hacking solutions unfortunately.

there must be some code hidden in the phone to know its from the states. if only there was a way to change it so we can activate with a legit o2 card. any ideas?

Every carrier has a unique ID and every iPhone is shipped with a given carriers ID burned into the firmware. (even the ones from countries like France where unlocked phones are sold, the unlocked phones are simply fed instructions to tell them to work on networks other than the one programmed into them).

Unless you use an unlock hack, there is no way a phone with AT&Ts unique ID programmed into it will work on the O2 network.

    Default O2 on a contract

    Hi guys,
I'm on O2 but with a contract. My phone is 1.1.4 unlocked now (cause I'm not in official contract). Do you think that I could use the same procedure as per pay as you go sim?

Default Got edge working on PAYG o2 2.0 1st gen officially activated

    APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
    Username: vertigo
    Pass: password
Settings only work after buying the PAYG 7.50 o2 web bolt on and I think you probably should register your PAYG sim for use with iPhone on the o2 website.

Also when I activated 2.0 with the official o2 sim that came with the iPhone. The phone came to life but the sim gave no signal so I popped in a PAYG sim, iPhone told me to connect to itunes. I did and it activated the phone and the PAYG sim gave a signal and activated right away:d

O2 GPRS/edge is slower then what I had on t-mobile

I have a pay-monthly non-iphone o2 contract. I had a pwned first gen iphone on 1.1.4. Updated in itunes to 2.0, as you would if legit (didn't viriginise, didn't use the iphone original sim or anything, just my normal o2 sim). Updated fine, confirmed t+c, it activated as soon as i got a connection (reception is poor indoors where i live), everything working fine.

That sounds interesting, did you activated the phone with the unofficial o2 sim or with the one in the box?

unofficial. not sure i know where the iphone sim is anymore. i literally took a working, day-to-day, pwned 1st gen UK phone, with non-iphone but pay-monthly o2 sim in it, connected to itunes and clicked 'update'. followed the prompts and now it all works. also checked on my o2 account online to confirm they hadn't mysteriously 'upgraded' me to an iphone account or anything. everything there looks ticktety boo too...

I rang up O2 today and they confirmed a PAYG sim will activate and work in a UK iPhone 1st Generation.
And unfortunately for me they will not work in a US iPhone unless you can get an unlocking code from AT&T.
Yeah, like that's ever going to happen!!

My iPhone originally came from the states back in august last year. Recently I have had the comms board and logic board replaced here in the UK by ipaqrepair.co.uk. Do you think I will get this method to work on my phone??
