Default 1ST Gen iPhone screen replacement....

Hey guys Im pretty new to this site. I signed up a long time ago but forgot my password, but anyways, I recently purchased a 1st gen iPhone from a friend to fix and sell. It has a broke screen.I noticed that people are saying that I should buy the all-in-one unit. Is there anyway to like bypass all that and just separate the digitizer from the glass and just replace the glass that way? I find it ridiculous that the part is still selling for 50-100 bucks for a phone that is 4 years old. Any suggestions?

Pretty sure is is because it is tricky to remove the broken glass from digitizer without damaging the digitzer in the process.

So yes it is possible, but trickier

Yeah I think I need to replace the digitizer anyways. It wont respond to the unlock motion but I can turn it off, so it seems like the top of the screen responds but the bottom wont. Do the 1st gens have a problem with responding to touch because that seems a little odd to me that the top of the screen responds but the bottom wont? Maybe a ribbon is loose?

Mine has the exact same problem (only half the screen responds now). I haven't bothered getting it fixed as I mostly use the 2G for testing and I can control it remotely via veency.
If anyone does know the solution for this, please reply. I'd like to fix my 2G myself - but not interested in spending too much to fix it.
