Default [1st Gen iPhone Only][2.0][GoPhone] Prepaid plan will work?

So I tried sticking a prepaid card into my 1st Gen iphone w/2.0, and it required that I plug it into iTunes. However if I put in the cancelled plan card, iTunes wasn't required.

Does anybody know if activating the cancelled card will let me use a prepaid gophone plan with the 1st gen iPhone w/ 2.0? Anybody got a $10 activation code and willing to try it out?

Only time this will work is if you have a 2.0 2g UK phone and an o2 sim card (payandgo etc) Otherwise wait for the unlock!

I have an activated GoPhone SIM and it doesn't work at all for me. My phone was accidentally (not legitimatelly, I think) activated though, that may make a difference? When I put a SIM card in it goes to "Slide for Emergency" and when I leave SIM cards out I can use 2.0. BTW I'm T-Mobile user and I know that I need to wait for PWNAGE to unlock.

So here's the thing, my iPhone came with a sim. I used my iPhone sim on a legit plan for a while, but couldn't afford it so I cancelled it.

When I installed firmware 2.0, I left that card in there and I could use the iphone as a ipod fine. So my guess was that iTunes thought it was legit enough to allow.

If I insert a gophone sim, it says to connect to iTunes and sign up for a plan.

So, I was wondering if I could activate my iPhone sim on GoPhone prepaid and insert it in the iPhone and it would just work.

The thing I'm concerned about is that the iPhone/iTunes thought my sim was okay, but I don't know for sure why.

    Multiple guesses:
    1) All the servers were flooded during the 3G launch, so to make things faster, they just let all AT&T cards through? (this way Apple's servers and AT&T's servers didn't need to talk about each SIM).
    2) iPhone lets any AT&T card through? Seems to be the case for the 3G, not for the 1st Gen?
    3) When the backup was restored, my legit activation token was still there so it didn't bother contacting Apple?

Concerns about trying to activate Gophone on my sim:
    1) Activating gophone on the SIM will change the phone number stored on the SIM. Will this cause the iPhone to talk to Apple's servers again? I can't change the number back.
