I have a 1st gen Iphone (1.1.1) with the following problems:

--Home button doesn't work
--Phone doesn't work (I can hear them, but they can't hear me unless I'm yelling) but when I use the headset, i have no problems with communicating.
--USB is not recognized by my laptop or PC, but it does charge when plugged into the wall
--Weird buzzing sound occasionally but always buzzing when i open the Installer app

I belive this is a hardware problem, and because I still have the warranty (1 month left) I want to take it back to Apple for repair, but i want to set my iphone back to it's original factory settings and hide all evidence of it being modified.

I followed this thread to jailbreak and unlock my iphone back in Oct 2007 (anySim 1.1):

I do have ssh working, so i want to know if there's a way using ssh where i can 'format' the iphone back to it's factory state.

virginize your phone (not sure if u need to), add i.unlock.no to installer source

then put ur phone in DFU mode

iTunes will recognise your phone in recovery mode

restore ur phone (hold shift in windows or option in mac and click on restore)
ull need to locate the firmware file

u can restore to 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4. 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.1

i would suggest 2.1 if ur on mac and 2.0.1 on windows
(2.1 not pwned on windows)

I've been reading about virginizing the iphone, but i wasn't sure if this was the right route.

I read about this, but my home button doesn't work, so it won't work.

Would it be good enough just to virginize my phone?

since u are on 1.1.1 u can use iLiberty to put ur phone into DFU mode
also since your home button does not work i suggest u upgrade to 1.1.4 since there is no tool like iLiberty to put a phone into DFU mode
to put a phone into DFU mode donload an install iLiberty and select "Other Tools"

use iLiberty to jailbreak, unlock and activate 1.1.4

ALSO just virginizing ur phone eill probably not fix your problem, am actually very sure it wont, since virginizer is only to fix a few files

you whould prob also wanna know to ssh in 1.1.4 the password is alpine and not the 1.1.1 dottle (or something like that)

since your phone is not virginized you should NOT set up your phone with the back up u made on 1.1.1, instead set up phone as new

just sync contacts, mail and calender using itunes

So i started learning about iLiberty, and it seems i need to connect it to my computer using USB. Again the USB connection is not working. Is there a way to use iLiberty through ssh?

Also, i havn't found a way to upgrade to 1.1.4 unless I have a USB connection.

sadly there is no way to do any of this without USB

my question for u is if ur USB connector is not working how do u charge.....i read above ur wall charger is working.......so there is problem with itunes or with the iphone OS

have u tried to use a different computer mayb a mac and different cable
mayb ur itunes in not working reinstall it
remove it completly including mobile support etc

also if ur lucky itunes may not be able to work with ur iphone but mayb i liberty does and then u can put it into DFU and then itunes will be able to work with ur phone
