I think I know the answer to this, but since I don't trust my google-fu...

...is there a way to unlock/activate (not jailbreak) an iPhone newly updated with 2.0 software? I don't have service (I was using prepay, and can wait for devteam), so I just need to get past activation.

you need to jailbreak !!.
without a jailbreak you cannot do anything.
