Default [1.1.4] ZiPhone'd iPhone suddenly drops service, decreased battery life.

I have an iPhone from around launch day.
I upgraded my 1.0>1.1.1 and jailbroke, then went to 1.1.4 and jailbroke with ZiPhone 2.6b.

My phone has been working fine for months after using ZiPhone, but now I suddenly lose service and I often lose connection to the network at all. Area's that usually gave me 5 bars of service now only give me 1-2, maybe 3.

I notice that EDGE drops alot, and sometimes changes to GPRS (solid square).

This problem only started a couple of days ago, and now is pretty persistent.
I have found that turning my phone off/on sometimes fixes the problem but not permanently.

    Anyone have advice?

I know I shouldn't have used ZiPhone to start with..

Any other options without having to restore?
Or any complete backup options on mac?

I agree with )law(, you should give a restore a try to get rid of all stuff that might cause the problems and use iLiberty or PwnageTool then.

There is no complete backup tool around. I use Phoneview (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/) on my Mac. its 20 $ shareware, and worth it, at least for me.

When going this way after unlocking is successful and you connect to iTunes, it will offer something like "restore data from backup". even though that looks like a good idea, I would not. instead choose "set up as a new iphone" and then sync with iTunes.

Try then if everything works as expected again.
If you had backed up with Phoneview you could then get back sms, call-history ...

    Give it a shot

Ah, I was mainly concerned with installer apps that take up more than one folder on the iphone, annoying to reinstall those.

Has anyone else noticed any poor service issues? Not only on an iPhone, just on AT&T in general?

My iPhone isn't unlocked, but two other phones on the line (s710a and d710) are both experiencing poor service issues.

    Maybe It's not my iPhone?

lol, and good to see you Zf_ !

Maybe the timebomb you are mentioning is is a 3-step-process:
    ZiPhone->StronZiPhone->NoPhone

btw: StronZiPhone is XianLi's favourite name for it, have been reading it all over ;-)

You are right, that can be annoying. But if you go this way and use winpwn (if you are on Windows) you may create a custom firmware that already contains your favourite apps and restore to it then.

    just my 2 cent,
