Question [1.1.4][HowTo] Prepare phone to go legitimate on 2.0fw

I'm in the UK and have just bought an unlocked, jailbroken iPhone 2G from Ebay.

Works absolutely fine with my existing SIM on 1.1.4, but I'd like to restore the phone to factory settings and do a legal upgrade to 2.0, then activate it properly and run it on an o2 PAYG tarrif. Syncing it with Exchange is pretty crucial for me - that's why.

But... I don't want to brick the thing.

So, what I want to know is whether it's possible to do this or not. I've read something similar on this thread http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45448 that indicates it is possible, but what's super confusing/worrying me is talk about Bootneuter (which is installed on the phone) baseband restores and flashes, and pretty much everything else that indicates how easy it is to brick the phone.

Can I just hook it up to the latest iTunes and upgrade the phone to 2.0 then activate it legally, or do i need to do something with Bootneuter first? Flash the baseband? Base the flashband? Uninstall Bootneuter? Do something to the bootloader? What???

I am fairly competant with this stuff, but am completely new to the iPhone. What would be fantastic is if someone with a bit of experience in all this could post an easy-to-follow step by step guide on what you need to do to get your phone back to it's original state after it's been jailbroken/unlocked. What do you need to check? What version of the baseband do you need to have, etc, etc. There's plenty of tutorials on jailbreaking the phone, but not much info when it comes to actually restoring it!

I have searched through the fourm, and I apologise for the basic questions, but you gotta agree that some of this stuff isn't exactly crystal clear to a lot of people!!!

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for replying.

Excellent... so... I don't need to worry about what Bootneuter has done to anything on the phone - I can just hook it up to iTunes and set it all up as a new phone?

    yeah thats right

BootNeuter just upgrades/downgrade ur BootLoader to 3.9/4.6 according to what u choose

ur iphone on whatever FW will have the BL u have chosen

1.1.1 OTB and before have 3.9 as stock BL ans 1.1.2 to 1.1.4 OTB have 4.6, so if u upgrade a 1.0.2 OTB to 1.1.4 ull have a 3.9BL unless u use bootneuter to upgrade to 4.6

the 2.0 OTB that is the 3G is rumored to have a 5.x BL

You dont need to worry about the bootloader, but. I recently did what you are doing and have found that the phone has a few issues going to 2.0. Firstly my edge stopped working. This is because you ned to go from the 7.50 bolt on to the 10 bolt on (adds free wifi access). Also my email started crashing, I setup email before restoring settings on the phone and that sorted it our. Hope that helps

it would also be good to know where the phone was bought if it was bought in US then it won't work as a legit phone on a UK carrier. It will need to be unlocked at 2.0 iPhones are tied to the network they are sold under, the only way to run them on other networks it to unlock them legally or otherwise.
Just a warning, your plan may not work.
    Good luck

Thanks guys - all helpful, and more than reassuring.

It's definitely a UK-bought phone, too - the back of the box mentions o2.
