Pentium. I also think is a different problem. The thing is that it was trigger when I applied the fix. Anyway I tried your suggestion and didn't work.

If I get to solve it I'll let you know.

    Any other suggestions are welcome!
Just one question. On the iphone for Wi-Fi: Do you enter the real IP of your providers DNS server or the one of your Router? Version 3 of Javacoms solution has two IP-numbers set inside "enable-opendns", 192.168.111.2 and 192.168.111.3. Do you use one of those cause they come from a private network...

It works!!! I don't know how or why but it started working. I noticed that there where no DNS numbers while on wifi, I did a "forget this network" and it started working. I really don't know why because this particular hotspot was new for my iPhone. So there is no chance the DNS where wrongly saved.

    Anyway is working.

Thank you and all the guys very much for your help. We (the unlocked) feel a bit lonely sometimes, but this forum is GREAT!

Regarding your question (so I don't leave it unanswered) the wifi DNS was gather from the router which sends the providers DNS. Is something like 200.69.blah.blah.

    Thanks again!!

    i am little confused.
i installed the app through the installer, edited the"dnsip.txt" file where i entered only one opendns ip address.
rebooted the iphone, activated only edge, startedup the stock application, closed it, did
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
but i still get my carrier dnsip addresses, in fact my iphone is not using the opendns ip's.

i am confused since in the enable-opendns file there are two more addresses, should those be changed?
please let me know, i still can't use the opendns ip's!

Did you check post 4 here in this thread. You first have to find out the two DNS server IPs your provider is normally using. Then you have to open the dnsip.txt file and add both of the two (your provider's DNS IPs) there. Save, restart the iPhone and you should be seeing the Open DNS when cat.

    Hope that helps

Default DNS Fix to change DNS to opendns for cellular network

The DNS fix to change DNS to opendns is now updated to support firmware 2.0

The new package is released as a cydia package and will install 4 files to iPhone

    /usr/bin/enable-opendns
    /usr/bin/iopendns
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/iopendns.plist
    /var/root/dnsip.txt

you can add the watchlist of the DNS ip address (one ip address per line) for the cellular network to dnsip.txt
    e.g.
    Code:
    iopendns -dns1 >> /var/root/dnsip.txt
    iopendns -dns2 >> /var/root/dnsip.txt
This will add both the existing DNS servers to the list and your iPhone will use OpenDNS servers instead of the ones the EDGE/GPRS offers and let you connect to the Internet.

Alternatively, you can also edit the two dns entries in the shell script /usr/bin/enable-opendns

To install the package, you have two choices
    (1) Add this source in Cydia Installer
    Code:
    http://www.iphone.org.hk/apt/
    and install the package called
    DNS Fix in category Tweaks

    (2) manually download the debian package and install the package in your iPhone in Terminal access

Assume you have installed the wget in your iPhone you can do this
    Code:
    wget http://www.iphone.org.hk/apt/20080812230254____iopendns.deb
    dpkg -i 20080812230254____iopendns.deb

Touch Dial is an easy-to-use application for one touch dial / sms icon on the home screen for iPhone.

This app can read the accelerometer and do phone dial or SMS dial for the same number based on the your setting for Portrait or Landscape Mode of iPhone.

    Thanks so much Javacom.
I think I'm going to copy this latest post to the 2G pwnage/winpwn section. People may miss this since it's in general section. I'll consult with Volkspost on this.

    @Volkspost,
    What do you think?

    Thanks for your effort.

I though the DNS issue is fixed but anyhow someone asked me to update the package to support to 2.0 firmware.
