[1.1.3] UK Contract Expiring, Switch to O2 Simplicity?
Hi all,
My contract with Orange is due to expire in a month and I was thinking about signing up for an O2 Simplicity package with the Unlimited Web Bolt-On.
If I do so, will I be able to connect via EDGE to use the bolt-on?
I tried searching the forums but couldn't find a definitive answer on this one.
If no is the answer to this, will there be any drawbacks to using the iPhone with O2's GPRS?
Thanks

I have to ask why you would want to use that tarrif when the official iPhone tariffs are such good value! I mean the bolt on is going to end up costing only a few pounds less if I am not mistaken and it DOES have a fair use restriction as well.
Whereas £35 will get you 600 mins and 500 txts and unlimited data - yes its 18 months contract but I am sure O2 will let those of us upgrade to new iphones when they are released and 18 months isn't really that long if you ask me!

I'd be using that tariff because I was given a US iPhone for xmas which I've since unlocked and using on my current Orange contract.
When the iPhone was first released in the UK from what I remember the £35 contract wasn't that competitive so I decided not to bother with it but when the next iPhone is released I'll prob go legit providing it allows me to use 3G (If it supports 3G that is).

Using O2's iPhone plans on an unlocked iPhone should not be a problem (whether it's from the US or another country). Just get an O2 SIM to use

I would like to know this too. I just find that O2 Iphone contract deal is rip off. for £35 a month they give 600 mins and 500 text and unlimited data access. And also £269 for the 8gb phone. ALtogether this works out to be £900 over 18 months.
Whereas I want to go onto thier simplicity deal which at £25 a month you can get 600 mins 1000 text and free unlimited data bolt on and you are not tied upto a lengthy contract. More value for money.
Would you still recive the edge network on the simplicity too or would u just be stck with GPRS?
Thanks

Did you have to do anything to set up EDGE or did it just work as soon as you inserted the sim card?

The only "Rip Off" is the fact you have to PAY for the phone.
600min/500txt and unlimited data + wi-fi hot spots is VERY competative.
For that same price on any other contract you would get a free phone but you would not get unlimited data and hot spot access - you may have unlimited calls OR txts instead and if you txt lots more or make lots more calls then fair enough but as it stands now its a great package!
As for signing up to a contract on an O2 SIM all you have to do is go get a SIM from O2 which they will happily give you (there is a bit on their site about if you sell your iPhone you can get a SIM from them for free for it!).
Then just restore with the O2 SIM in the phone and it will take you through the activation process - no problems... very easy!

Is anyone able to confirm that EDGE will work with Simplicity?
