Default [1.1.3] Symlink from root to mobile, iAno dont find it

    hi

i've ziphones my iphone, after using the dev team 1.1.3 for some weeks, or so.
however since there are two "users" now, root and mobile, and most applications use the mobile in 1.1.3, but some still have it wrong, e.g. evolutionRGB and iAno, i thoought, well i'll just make a Symlink from root/library to nobile/library and from root/media to mobile/media.
i used the "ln -s /var/mobile/Media Media" command when i was in the root folder.

i can browse with winSCP to "var/root/Media" and it takes me right to "var/mobile/Media" so i think it worked.

however some programms dont work anymore, like iAno and evolutionRGB.

isnt the meaning of Symlinks to "fake" a folder? and if so, shouldnt evolutionRGB find the new folder in the mobile dir after the symlink?

try reinstalling them. Also if you have WinSCP then all you have to do to create a symlink is go to the /VAR/root/ right click select "link" then just enter "Media" in the first box and /VAR/mobile/Media/ in the second one. You do not have to create a symlink for library. Then just try to reinstall the apps, should fix your problem.

didnt work, when i made a symlink from root to mobile, i cant install evolutionRGB, it says "Main script execution error"

i ended up with two seperates folder, as i had i previously, a normal root and a normal mobile, without any simlinks.

I was a beta tester for iAno before the creator released it and i just contacted him about this issue.
Hopefully he'll reply and a update may become available

    thanks tj

the thing is, since 1.1.3 the user is "mobile" and not "root" anymore, so the user data goes to "var/mobile/Media" not "var/root/Media" anymore.
normaly in unix this shouldnt be a problem, since the programmer can access the user file with "~/Media" but some programms, including the installer.app sometimes refer to the path with the absolut way, which leads to misplaced files when there is another user (which happend in 1.1.3 update).

so i think that wont be such a problem, since he'll update that for sure, and i think he's already aware of the issue

    thanks

In Installer.app 3.0, ~ and @Applications are now supported in paths.
