Default [1.1.3 OTB][Problem] Can't access internet from SOME wifi routers

    Hi!

I would appreciate it if someone could help me with this problem.

My iphone's wifi works great at home (on linksys router) but does not seem to work properly at school. It will connect to the school's router (puts check mark beside the name) and show full signal strength as well as obtain (under DHCP) the IP address, subnet mask, Router (IP) and DNS settings (the network does not require a password).

The IPhone is able to get the following:-

    IP Address: 192.168.20.97
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 192.168.20.1
    DNS: 196.3.0.3, 196.3.0.6

The problem is that the internet does not work and safari gives the following error - "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server". Same story with youtube and anything else which relies on an internet connection.

The funny thing is, people with laptops just open them and are immediately on the network.

I have tried entering google's address as 72.14.207.99 (DNS check) but its the same story.
I have tried changing the DNS to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (on DHCP)...still does not work.
I have tried replacing the DNS entry with the Router IP...no go.
I have tried resetting the phone's network setting...same story.
I have tried turning Wifi on and off...does not work.

I do not have access to the router at school and currently I do not know the brand.

    Please Help!

    IPHONE STATS
Unlocked, activated and jailbreaked using Ziphone 2.3
    OTB FW: 1.1.3
    Current FW: 1.1.3
    BL: 4.6
    BB: 04.02.13_G

    Update March 17, 2008
    1. The router I am trying to connect to is a Cisco Aironet 340 series.
    2. I have tried to ping a website using term-vt100 and I get 100% packet loss.
    3. I have tried to ping the router and I get 0% packet loss.

the phone seems to see the router just fine, but won't access the internet. Still need help!

there has always been a bug with some routers

    i remember an old fix

was that you delete the connection (forget this network) and turn the wifi off

then reboot your iphone and turn wifi on and then reconnect to your preffered network

    should work..

    works for me always

    im on 1.1.4 now

If it works at home it is not your wifi. DOes your school require you to register the MAC address with them before you can surf the net and/or log in?

well its not really a bug
so it really does not have anything to get solved

its just sometimes the settings show but don't get registered its a software thing resetting helps remove glitches..

try it lemmo know if it doesnt work.. then we'll delve deeper :

i have the exact same problem only that i can use the wifi at school and not at home.

my school wifi (linksys routers) needs wpa key -> works fine.

at home (zyxel router) needs wep, i can join but i cant use the internet...
my ip is also 169blablabla....i talked to a service guy at my internet company and he said that if the ip starts with 169 it means, that the device cant get an ip...
i tried typing in everthing manually but it didnt work.
so i guess it has to do with the provider or with the router...i cant be the iphone since i works perfectly on other routers.

everytime i need wifi at home i have to walk to the end of my block where some guy was wifi with no key ^^

    Krimp,

I tried the procedure you recommended but the phone still will not access the internet.

Do you know of anything else I could try?

Did YOU set the router up, if not, you sure you don't have mac association enabled? If you did then are you sure DHCP is enabled?

    Just a thought.

    Dok
    Peace,
