i freed my 16 GByte phone with ziphone 2.3 without a flaw ( first j + a, then backup of seczone, then u ).

Everything works, WiFi, BT, Edge, Youtube, Maps Locator...

But i realized that i have BB 4.02..., what advantages would BB 4.03 have ( besodes having to downgrade BL to 3.9 with the small risk involved ) ?!

Glad to hear that your 16GB was freed properly with 2.3 as I have a 16GB and am going to use Ziphone too, and have heard people having trouble with these.

As far as the BB 4.02, it's because 1.1.3 can't run unlocked with 4.03 baseband. 4.03 won't be able to be unlocked until 1.1.4 comes out because security files are needed from the next version to get access to the previous version, as far as I understand.

Does your camera work properly too?? And did you take your phone straight out of the box and run Ziphone?

Also, I think that the 4.03/1.1.3 contains some locate me function in google maps, but their is a fix you can download for that while you are running 4.02, not sure where it is though, I'm not that dfar along yet.

ahhhh, no unlock with 4.03 that makes sense !

Yes, i directly took it OTB and ran ziphune ( jailbreak + activate ).
Then i used the installer that ziphone installed to install bsd sub & ssh.
Then i made a backup of my seczone ( beeing the paranoid i am ) with virginizer_pack.
after i copied the seczone backup away with winscp i ran ziphone to unlock stuff.

After using the locateme fix i now also can use the feature in google maps, although its a bit flaky ( no idea if it is just bad or if its because of 4.02 BB, i use locateme instead with performs great ).

Eveything is working so far, including the camera !
( bt headset, wifi connection, sms in and out, call in and out, call in sleep mode, youtube without having to use a fix ).

Where did you get the program/information on how to backup your seczone? I assume those are some type of default security files that can't be restored with Itunes???

There is one old thread here named: "[Idiot Proof] Guide to Virginize your iPhone (with pics)"

this describes the use of a "virginizer_pack" for virginizing...

But if you finally follow the steps in that good guide the tool asks you if you (1) want to backup your seczone or (2) to virginize.

Choose (1) at that point and look inside the folder for a file named seczone.backup ( or the like, anyways its the new file ) 8 kByte size.

Thats your golden key :-)

Obviously you can do it 1000 other ways but if you use this guide & toolkit its idiotproof which is fine for me, i also used it on my last phone which saved my *ss as i managed to do stupid things with it :-)

This is false. Ziphone does it.

Its actually to do with the Bootloader, if you were to downgrade your bootloader then you would be able to use 4.03 on 1.1.3 as we hat OTB 1.1.3, the Bootloader is 4.6 and if you do downgrade it to 3.9 using Ziphone you can have 4.03 BB but I wouldn't recommend it as there are some chances of bricking your phone.

soooo, what would be the advantage of having 4.03 Baseband ???
