otachi: can you please explain the statement "as you get one access to the baseband and that's it"? I'm relatively new to the discussion and don't understand this. Thanks.

So, what exactly is in 1.1.3?
New map features
SMS multiple sending
Customize home screen
Create bookmarks??
What the hell took them nearly 2 months to do all this
Is there anything I'm missing?

Can someone running 1.1.3 please check whether the 130 countries missing from the dropdown menu in the contacts address form have been added? For example, is Estonia now included?

The leaked version of 1.1.3 proved to be the same as the released version which means that it's been ready for weeks. Apple held it back just to coincide with Macworld. Isn't that a lovely set of priorities...

To all those knocking Apple over the charge for the Touch upgrade:
Mac users, did you pay for the upgrade to Leopard or iLife '08? Software companies *always* provide free minor releases and bug fixes, but charge for major releases. Apple's no exception.
There is a big financial difference between the iPhone and the Touch. When you bought the Touch, you paid Apple $299 and that's all they're sure they're going to get out of you. With the iPhone, you paid $399 (or $599), but then AT&T pays them for every month that you subscribe as well. Whereas Apple realizes the Touch's profit as soon as you purchase it, they are profiting from your iPhone long after the sale. From an accounting perspective, this allows them to provide "free" feature enhancements to the iPhone while still turning a profit on those enhancements. If they just give away new features to existing iPod Touch owners, they're taking a loss (which the accountants don't like).
And in case anyone is thinking "but the Apple TV update is free," that's because they stand to make money on movie rentals, and upgrading the existing Apple TVs will only help them make more movie/music sales. Giving Touch owners access to stocks and weather information doesn't net Apple a dime.

people with the old bootloader are the exception here but lets just look at it as if we all have the new one.
the new bootloader is designed to only move up a version number where as the old one allowed current version or greater. so when you give it a sec pack that checks out and write access is allowed to the baseband you get one chance to write as the next write permission will require a higher version.
now if we are able to open up the new updates disk image and get the sec pack there is also a chance that we could get the modem firmware aswell and make the patch then manually put a patched version on the iphone (so that means you wouldnt have to stay a version behind
)
just think of it like one of those hotel swipe keys that only works once. thats what were dealing with. so we want to make sure we make the best use of the open door that we can as it wont open again.

I can only hope that it contains what the DevTeam needed to do their magic. I am using my phone with TurboSim and I won't even bother upgrading to 1.1.3
And about the $20 fee for iPod Touch users...well Apple just more and more starts to look like Microsoft - how lovely

I totally agree! But, only about the 1st and 3rd parts because I have AT&T so yeah... but, I could really care less about customizing my home screen. I mean it's cool, but whoopdy whoop. I have to say that the maps are very nice now, and the bookmark thing is cool.
But a flash, or at least zoom features, or different photo effects would be great! Copy and paste would have been amazing.
I believe this may be just a "preparation" of what is coming because according to some video, there will be 3rd party applications available.. or something like that
