    More Details On Latest Jailbreak

The downside with new Firmware updates is the lack of 3rd party hacks (for now at least) and is no different this time around. Luckily more details have surfaced about a Jailbreak for 1.1.3 with some good news as well.

First off, the release of the Jailbreak could be released early, the team has debated on whether or not to release or wait. In my opinion, it would be beneficial to release it now assuming that official 3rd party Apps require a new update which could patch the hole used for Jailbreaking.

Another upside is that the current Jailbreak has proven to be easy but the final result is less than satisfying.

The method is about as difficult as the one used to jailbreak iPhones running software/firmware 1.1.2.

Unlike previous jailbreak methods, the 1.1.3 method only allows applications to run in restricted user mode. This means that certain currently available third-party applications will not run properly. Installer.app, the program used to browse and install third-party apps, for instance, requires additional hacking to run properly on jailbroken 1.1.3 iPhones.
This doesn't sound great. Apps only run in restricted user mode? So does this mean that they haven't achieved root access? If that is the case then are we no longer going to have SSH access to the phone?

This makes more sense now. I wondered why the dev team would not release this because their reasoning made no sense to me. If Apple's devs know that there is a hole, Jobs will keep his foot on their throat until they find it. So just releasing the news that a jailbreak has been achieved would be enough detriment. I think that we may be looking at the end of the hackable iPhone. This is truly a sad day.

And the source for the news is who? who is he?

I'd highly doubt it, they need root to jailbreak, that's the whole deal with jailbreaking! to get out of usermode and into superuser mode.

Not so. Let me refer your attention to the other thread about "1.1.3 decryption key?" those guys are working towards JBing on their own and showing up the dev teams. Just ask "thecompkid" (who's has gotten emails from Steve jobs regarding upgrades, before) and his sidekicks "tinman" (ironman's little bro) and the rest of the guys in that thread........... there is still hope for us......

Recieved e-mails from steve jobs??? i find that hard to believe.... (although I got one in june saying that the iphone was released, and i think Steve wrote that one to me...haha)

anyways, it doesnt mean they didnt achieve root access, it just means that the apps run in some sort of limited environment (in line with what apple said last year about wanting to find a "secure" way of opening up the iphone without making it virus prone, etc)

Running in user mode... in fact, its running apps as root that is weird.... Were getting closer to a "real" UNIX usage.

As long as the jailbreak allows us to Unlock and Activate the iPhones I will be happy.
Sooner or later Apple was going to put a stop to all the FREE third-party support for the phone. ;-(

If this is true it is yet another cock-up by the dev team. Why they claimed to have a JB in the first place if they wanted to keep access with the SDK is beyond me, but not only does Apple know there's a hole, but now they have more details which could help them narrow down how the hack was achieved. At this point there is absolutely no point in keeping anything hidden, on the contrary a complete run down of the process should be released so others not on the dev team can maybe find a better way or offer suggestions, which cannot be done if it's secret.

I think we all need to realise with this info, even if in limited form, is enough for Apple to narrow its sites and figure out how it was done and patch it up.

Also, where the hell is the encryption key? Apple knows you have it since you've announced and extracted the secpack, so why not leak it like has been done with all previous firmwares? Also why not answer a few questions people have, such as is a new anysim in the works? Does IPSF survive? Will OTB 1.1.2 users have a SW unlock since you have the 1.1.3 secpack? Overall, issue a progress report. Including people and keeping them up to speed will encourage them to help, donate and obviously since anysim is now open source, how the hell can anyone work on it with secrecy around the 1.1.3 JB.

"1.1.3 JB runs in restricted mode" is (imo) pure bullshit. JB means full R/W access to system partition and if there would be only mobile user avilabe then whats the point of hoilding it back since with introduction of SDK runing custom code under mobile user will be trival...

they are holding it back for reason that this will be one of probably last "full JB" as we know them (hope im wrong tho!)...
