Default [1.1.3] Forgot / can't use root password in terminal

So I either 1. forgot or 2. can no longer use the root password when i open up the terminal. Can someone help with this? I'm not really sure how it happened.
I was on 1.0.2 (i changed my password here) upgraded to 1.1.1 (password changed still) went to 1.1.2 (new password) and now on 1.1.3 i can no longer use any of the passwords even alpine or dottie don't work..
    can someone help?

    Me too

After upgrading to 1.1.3 through installer.app using 1.1.3-3 upgrade, password is asked when using terminal on the phone.

Having the same trouble. Had 1.1.3 ATT phone, used ziphone to jailbreak, used apptap to install BSD subsystem, SSH, and vt100 term, but the default passwords for root and mobile (dottie/alpine) work for neither.

I received a warning through apptapp that the BSD subsystem wasn't yet happy using passwd to change the password, but I can't even get in yet!

Quick research suggests that ziphone may have changed the default root/mobile passwords? This is indicative of users unable to SSH/WINSCP onto the device ... but users who changed their root/mobile passwords prior to the 1.1.3 upgrade were fine?

Alternatively, users who began with 1.1.3 may have had their root passwords changed by apple (as they did in... what was it? 1.0.2? from dottie to alpine)... in which case, we need that beast cracked again?

    ---Edit

Wasn't cracked. 1.1.3 made these programs all run in a sandbox as the user "mobile"... there's talk of it here: http://code.google.com/p/mobiletermi...s/detail?id=72 and a hypothetical fix for it. It seems you'll need to SSH into the device to fix the terminal login. It seemed fairly complicated enough to me that I haven't done it yet...

This has nothing to do with the password file entries. When vt100 launches it runs the login command with a flag to login as root. The mobile user is not allowed to login as root. You basically have to launch vt100 with root permissions. Big Boss has a package that fixes this. Install SUID Lib Fix under 1.1.3 tweaks. That sets the suid bit on login which will fix the problem. Now you will be able to use the root password to login when terminal prompts you. You might also want to install the BSD Subsystem 2.0 Term fix under Tweaks. This fixes the problem where backspace submits a space instead.
