Default [1.1.2 OTB US] How to buy it, what do they ask?

    Hi folks.
my question is about how to buy an iPhone, i mean i am going to go to NYC in few days and would like to buy 2 iPhones. Do i have to subscribe to AT&T? What do they ask you when you buy the iPhone? What personal info do i have to give them? Of course i won't be using the iPhone in the US but i will unlock it, so i don't want to give any personal info, but is this possible?
    Thanks!

    Hi!

I bought 5 (!!) Iphones on the 19th of December at the apple-Store in NYC (5th Ave).

    How did i do this?

    - i just went in
    - went into line at the chases
    - and when i was asked what i want i said: "5 Iphones"
    - the guy wanted to see my credit card (Gold Mastercard from germany) and asked after my passport (just for checking if it is my Mastercard)
    - but i hadnīt my passport with me so he said: Nevermind, no problem!
    - And then i got 5 Iphone, paid with my credit card ... and that was it!

No questions, no at&t, no nothing!

    One tip:
    1. You can get the 8,75 % NY Salestax back at the airport, if you are going back to overseas (Europe)
    2. You should clear the iphones at custom (germany 19%) otherwise you get in trouble = it illigeal!

    Regards

I went to an AT&T store and told them that i was buying this iPhone for a "family member". And I told him that i need to buy the iPhone so that my "family member" can pick the plan when he activates. I paid with cash, he said no problem.

I am now on Pay as you Go, with an iPhone .
    Thumbs up if i helped.

How does this work. I dont want to get back to Ireland and have to pay the tax on it! What is the best thing to do. Throw the box and stick it in your pocket or is it best to put it in your luggage?

well the best way for sure is that you throw your box away and go through the custom with your iphone in your pocket as it was your phone.
or else you could also go through pretending you are making a call on your iphone...

Yeah heh heh. What happens at customs in the US though. If you have them remove this tax in US then do they charge the customs Tax or does the country you live in charge it?

Is there a tax free period in US?

Why not buy one in the UK (i.e. Northern Ireland)?

If you buy an iphone in the states, pay the tax in the states, don't claim it back, then the iphone still costs about 100 euro less than in Europe!

Even if you declare it coming into Ireland and pay the tax (after claiming back US tax in US), the iphone still is 70 euros less than in Europe!

Remember that ATM you not to use a hardware unlock to get it working in Ireland! (more money)

My prediction on delivery date for 1.1.3 was right on the money! - Jan 15th 8 pm CET - Who doubted me?

Got a stealthSIM already, just need an iPhone to go with it. Should be buying it around 9th Jan so hopefully will miss phones with 1.1.3 OOB.

Just out of interest tiny_r. What are your thoughts on no iPhone in Ireland? Is it worth Apple having one here? There is probably more iPhones than there is Irish people. Scary thought.
