    Default [1.1.2 OTB] Question/Understanding Secpacks

While reading the hardware unlocks and BL downgrade, a few questions came to mind. I would really like someone knowledgeable to jump in and explain to me what I'm missing.
From my understanding, on 1.1.2 OTB ( and well 1.1.3 otb now) we need to have a new firmware in order to obtain the secpack that will allow to update the baseband.
So really 1.1.3 firmware holds the 1.1.2 secpack that allows the baseband flash, correct?

If the above is true, then the following questions/assumptions come to mind:
    - from 1.1.1 firmware, 1.1.2 updates the baseband.
    - if say an otb 1.1.2 iphone was to have issues, the 1.1.2 IPSW should be able to 'rewrite' everything to the phone.
    - Thus while on BL 4.6, you should be able to rewrite your baseband and everything else using 1.1.2, no?
    - If you're able to rewrite the baseband, then obviously the secpack was in 1.1.2 ipsw.

If 1.1.2 never had the secpack, then how is it able to repair/rewrite a faulty baseband?
Clearly if you're trying to upgrade to 1.1.3 and something went wrong, it would be horrible/unacceptable programming, if you couldn't re-flash with the 1.1.3 IPSW.

Does this mean that every ipsw holds the previous and newer secpack?

I'm quite confused and would like to hear what others have to say, or where I went wrong.

    Thanks!

Surprisingly, the answer to your questions is no. The 1.1.2 IPSW cannot rewrite the BB FW, because it doesn't contain the right secpack. It's not intuitive.

So a 1.1.2 IPSW could never repair a messed up baseband?
So if say something went bad, how do the genius bar 'reload' it?

The above mentioned version check is only true, if the BB is working and pingable. With a corrupted BB the version check fails and the current IPSW can restore the current BB.

When you are thinking about fooling the BL 4.6, remember that it puts a write lock after booting. So corrupting the BB software-only is out of question.
