Default [1.1.2 OTB] [Not confirmed scam] O2 France contact can SIM-unlock iPhones

Firstly, I apologize if I’m posting this in the wrong forum. In addition, I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere; I did search for a similar topic.

Anyways, I found an online classified ad to unlock FW 1.1.2 for $80. I replied to the poster with my phone number, and she called me a few hours later. I thought she was selling a *SIM to “unlock” iPhones, but she said she does a software unlock.

She said she has a friend that works for Orange France that can unlock iPhones. I just have to provide my iPhone’s IMEI number and serial number, which she would send to her friend that works for Orange. After sending the necessary information, I would have to leave my iPhone completely off for approximately 7 hours (because of the time difference) while the Orange contact unlocks the iPhone. If the phone is on at any time during the process, the unlocking would fail.

The seller claims that the SIM unlocking would be permanent, so I wouldn’t have to worry about FW upgrades, etc. Apparently, the unlock is based solely on my IMEI, which I told the seller I’m wary of giving out. But, she claims that’s the only way her friend can unlock the phone.

I’ve read through this thread (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...phone+germany), but there doesn’t seem to be a 100% confirmed consensus on exactly how the iPhones are unlocked. There are numerous theories, and a few make sense, but most suggest that the unlock is unique to your phone’s IMEI number. One poster suggested that if we knew somebody that worked for Apple or T-Mobile, then we could send that person our IMEI numbers and they could unlock our iPhones. However, another poster claims that Apple knows which IMEI numbers belong to US iPhones, T-Mobile Germany iPhones, etc., so such a process wouldn’t work.

I’ve also read through this thread (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...france+unlock), which suggests that all they need is your IMEI number to unlock your phone.

Well, what do you guys think? Is this a scam? What are the dangers of giving out my IMEI number? Does Apple really know which IMEI numbers were shipped to different countries? Could my IMEI number, at any point in the future, be "blacklisted?" What else should I be made aware of? Thanks in advance for any help you could offer!

It smells fishy abit..why they want u to close ur iPhone for 7 hours? and how are u exactly gonna recieve the Unlock? sure thing it won't be Unlocked for itself and I don't think they will use iTunes to do it as Offical Unlock does.

so it's a big scam in my opinion

Well, presumably, from what I've read on the other threads, I'm guessing that the Orange contact will send my phone's IMEI number to Apple with the pretense that the phone was purchased unlocked from Orange France for a premium of 649 Euro and needs to be unlocked. After waiting for Apple to process the request, I just have to pop in my SIM, and connect to iTunes, which will then say the phone has been unlocked. Please see the post here by ilanny: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...ance+unlock%29

Of course, I'm just speculating about how this person from Orange France would go about unlocking my phone.

It's a fake, Orange send unlock request to Apple, and this is the only procedure, and this procedure is 10 days long
