[1.1.2 OTB] 1.1.2 StealtSIM --> 1.1.4, ziPhone 2.5c - Test & Experience
OK, time to give back to the community after drawing from it for months like a predator. Yesterday I have finally abandoned my 1.1.2 fw to go straight to 1.1.4 (I tried avoiding 1.1.3 like hell, due to countless reports of instability and bugs, and I think that was a great decision).
What I tried to test using this upgrade was whether StealthSim would work with newest firmware/newest baseband, since I thought it basically mimics At&t sim card. Well, I was wrong.... When you update thru iTunes, StealthSim becomes useless.
So... from the start...
I had an 1.1.2 OTB running 1.1.2 fw + StealthSim.
So I gave it a shot using iTunes - I updated all the way in order to have the new firmware as well as new baseband. After that my phone was still activated, however, my StealthSim has been blocked. Frankly I was hoping it would still work, but nope... So at this time I took the xSim out, thankfully, the sim drawer did not put up any resistance. Then I restored the phone to 1.1.4 using iTunes. After that I ziPhoned 2.5c, choosing Do it all! since I don't think I had other choice at this point. Well, someone has mentioned here that it is possible to unlock w/o downgrading to 3.9, but I did not want to mess with two different versions of ziPhone and risk other problems. So, I Did it All, and all works great - Locate me is awesome (Toronto, Canada).
Then to my surprise, iTunes restored all my settings on the phone automatically. What a surprise it was! Everything came back - my email settings, bookmarks, even the data usage counter!!! Wow... pretty dang seamless...
Have you noticed any differences in 1.1.4 from previous firmware?
So far, have noticed the following:
(These are “issues” I noticed and could be exclusive to me, which are things that were different from 1.1.1 and may or may not bother you)
- “Number 1″ indicator on the SMS icon disappears after you tap “Reply” or “Ignore” when a message comes in. The “number 1″ in 1.1.1 would stay on the SMS icon until you actually went into the SMS feature and viewed the message, then it disappears.
- The “send sound” does not occur when viewing your SMS conversations from the contacts view but does still occur when viewing your message while IN the message (green/white chat bubbles view). (My definition of contacts view: Tap SMS, the first screen after tapping SMS where you see all your conversations and associated contact names)
That’s it so far.
I have a 1.1.2 otb iphone, i had it jailbroken and i currently use it with the help of a TurboSIM. i upgraded to 1.1.3 using the tutorial on Iclarified website.
my phone still works, it works pefect. but i wonder, can i use this method to unlock my phone so i can use it with all kind of sims. and still use my turbosim. because i had to cut my sim to use it witn TurboSIM, so i want to know if iti would still work
or what method would you recommend me?
I was also hesitating for a long time about doing away with Stealth and upgrading. I cut my Sim as well, and that's fine - it still fits well even though it's cut. That 3.9 irreversible bootloader downgrade (and the risk of bricking the phone permanently) scared the shit out of me. However, I installed too many apps on my 1.1.2 and some of them visibly started draining my batter, that I had to do a clean install anyway. So I went all the way and I love it. I love web clips, icons rearrangement and locate me from Google. No regrets whatsoever. Wouldn't mess with 1.1.3 though, read too many complaints on this forum.
So I fully recommend ziPhone. Bootloader downgrade is your choice, but for me - I don't give a crap - it's only a phone after all and it works perfectly well with 3.9 bootloader. Plus, I am not in the States anyway if I had to replace the phone, so that's irrelevant for me. ziPhone recommends cleaning up the phone completely before using it, so make sure you read the Help section in it.
Yogi - are you using a Rogers sim card?
