Default 1.1.2 (OTB 1.0.2) t-zones edge sometimes doesn't connect on first try

Using the $5.99 t-zones for edge connection, about a third of the time when I open Safari and try to access a page (specific page doesn't matter) nothing will happen and after about 2 minutes Safari will display a message "unable to locate url:/" and stop trying. If I then press refresh the page will come right up and the rest of the session will be fine. If I close Safari, then reopen, the same thing can, but does not always, happen again. This can happen when I have good signal strength (and I can get edge sometimes with poor signal strength). I also get similar failures to connect with other network apps (although only Mail will give an explicit error message, saying failed to connect to server), google maps for example will just sit there.

Most of the time everything works fine, but about a third of the time there's this failure to connect. I did not have this problem using the same account and service on my old Treo, so it seems specific to the iPhone. It's also been the same in FW 1.1.1 & 1.1.2 (and I think in 1.0.2 but I don't remember for sure).

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else so I wondered if any other t-zones people had this issue and if anyone had found a solution. It's non-fatal, but annoying to have to sit their for 2 minutes to wait for the page to fail to load so I can reload and make it come up.

    Thudpucker,

I encounter the same issue quite frequently. In my heart, I believe it is a T-Mobile issue. All I do is stop the webpage, select a new bookmark, and within about 15 seconds, it all starts working, and fast at that!

I am in the Tampa Bay area, and there are a few of us experiencing intermittent signal loss, and this issue. Could it be that T-Mobile's web is detecting that we are running iphones or is the proxy fix taking a while to authenticate to the server for the Edge service?

I feel lucky this is working for the most part! On my razr v3t, I cannot get the opera mini to work, and the built in browser is slow! Tmob placed restrictions into place where is the application is not signed by tmob, then it will not run (of course this applies mostly to java apps but still something to ponder). I finally had an honest rep tell me this. There is also mention of it at a Moto forum I read.

So, the fact that I can use tmob for safari and mail and all the other apps instead of tmob signed only apps is a wonderous thing.

Lastly, many times, when I run Navizon, my whole tmob connection goes to crap but will then restore for phone and edge fine, but the edge thing will do as you described for a bit. I am doing my best to not use Edge too often when wifi is available since I do not want Tmob to ban my phone.

    Food for thought.

Same issues here. I always, when loading a page for the first time, try to load and after about 5 seconds hit stop and reload. Funny this isn't an issue when using the mail or weather apps. I'm also on TMob using the 5.99 package...

Glad to knows it's not specific to my phone. And I'm very happy to be getting full EDGE service for $6/month -- hard to beat that (and more minutes than the same priced ATT plan).

Funny, I also live in Tampa but I travel often and can verify that the issue is no more common in Tampa than it is in other parts of the country (at least those I visit, Texas, New Mexico, California, Oregon, Georgia -- my phone actually has a Texas number, not that that matters). On an unrelated note, T-Mobile does seem to have lots of coverage 'holes' in the Tampa area -- my house is centrally located but I'm lucky to get 1 bar and can't hold a connection for more than 5 minutes (another wish -- iPhone compatibility with T-Mobile's t-zones at home or whatever their voice over wifi at home deal is called -- we have the hardware, just need the software).

T-mobile does recognized that I'm using a 'non-supported' phone -- when I log on to my account home page is now asks me to select from a list of supported phones where it used to identify my Treo 650 as a Treo 600 (the last Treo they sold), even though the phone I got with the account was a slvr (never used it, gave it away).

For the price I'll live with this little annoyance.

yea, there is a very small chance t-mobile will actually ban the phone . To tell you the truth, i actually called t-mobile , told them i had the iphone, and he told me he was actually thinking about getting it himself!! true story, and a week after that i had an issue so i called back and they were very helpful knowing that i had the iphone..

the only issue i had was when i went to apple store to "TRY" to exchange a week 47 to 44 or lower lol the guy looked at me with two heads, then told me that apple does not support what im doing, and then he told me that all the phones were the same! lol noob, they are really unhelpful when it comes to questions about other service providers because it is in their contract to not help you but t-mobile will actually talk to you down to earth and explain which deals is best for iphone (its not like i didnt know already!) peace
