1.1.2 international language support in dictionaries or not???
Dears,
the only reason i'm willing to put an upgrade on the IBaby is to have the autocorrector in my native language (Italian). Everyone talks about "international" support...but from what i've seen as of now it's only translation of the menus...
1- So..quick one: in 1.1.2, the autocorrector includes working dictionaries for ALL the languages displayed (i think Eng/Ger/French/Dutch/IT/)? Im NOT talking about keyboard characters, i dont care, i'm talking about the dictionary. I'm pretty sure German and French are included, i'm not sure about the other twos.
2- Plus, there was an old screenshot that i really loved: you could see the different languages listed, and an on/off tab listed next to it. My point is that half of my SMSs are in English, the other half in Italian...so...anyone knows if it's possible to have both english AND italian "enabled", and then the autocorrector automatically picks the right one?
Thanks,
Vanni

language setting has nothing to do with sms. sms are customized messages sent from 3rd party. the language pack is not advanced enough yet to automatically translate them. how does it know what it means on messages written by your friend?
wat the heck.

1- Its quite obvious i speak English, so its quite obvious i dont need to translate SMSs from my friends in English...
2- I was talking about the autocorrector of the messages (sms, mails, whatever..)YOU write...not about a IGod translation of incoming messages...
Any clue?

Ciao,
I'm Italian too, and I'm trying to fully 1.1.1 Italian speaking.
The Menu are ok (with the www.melamangio.com stuff), after the activation of the international keyboard.
After that I've found 3 files with the full Italian Dictionary that I've put under /System/Library/keyboardDictionaries with the name "it_IT" beginning.
And so I believe your question it's resolved, also with the 1.1.1 FW.

Gio,
thanks for the answer, but:
1- I understand you hacked the iphone with a user-made dictionary, so that now when you type you can have autocorrections enabled in Italian.
2- I don't understand if the autocorrection is now enabled for Italian, English, or both. That is...you start writing, does it suggest for italian words, for english ones, for both, or does it understand once you start writing a message the language you're writing and it only suggest words in that language?
3- On the dictionary, i'd like to know wether the ones supplied by Apple are activated or not. A user-made dictionary is a good effort...but i'd prefer to have the original ones on this.
So, anyone with 1.1.2 can answer the above?
Thanks,
Vanni

Vanni,
you can have the choice of more than one keyboard and then just clicking on the little world icon on the keyboard you switch between the different keyboards and dictionaries. So if you are on the english keyboard you will have the english autocorrections, and when you switch to the italian keyboard you will have the italian autocorrections.
I can tell you that on 1.1.2 you will have the italian language and the italian dictionary and autocorrection perfectly working.

1- Do you mean that once i start writing i can choose on the fly which keyboard/dictionary use?
If this is the case, its time for me to upgrade!!!!
By the way, is this also true in 1.1.1??? (im on 1.0.2).

Vanni, in 1.1.1 you can switch between different keyboards but there is not the italian dictionary. In 1.1.2 there is the original italian dictionary but it is not time yet to upgrade untill some unlock and jailbreak software will be released.
