Ok, I upgraded to 1.1.2. it worked. Then I tried to run the jailbreakme.com exploit. It said that I needed to downgrade it back to 1.1.1. well I did that but now I am stuck at the DFU mode. I have the pic of the usb cable pointing up to the itunes icon. I have tried to reset it many times, and I cannot get out of this. I believe independence can fix this problem. The only things is I have a PC and not a Mac. Does anyone know how to get through this mess?

I can't even restore it to a previous backup. I just can't get out of this mode.

I think the general consensus is iBrickr for PC users.

Try using the old appinstaller.exe for 1.0.2, and it should get you away of this mode.

I need to use it sometimes when revirginizing to 1.0.2...

I thought iBrickr stopped working after the 1.0.2 update and was never updated to work with anything else.

Does this mean I can do restores to older firmware versions (1.0.2, 1.1.1) with that? If so I would be so happy.

ok, I got it working. I now have the 1.1.1 firmware working on it. The only problem I have now is that it says:

Waiting for activation
This may take some time
Dismiss

Anyone know why this would be taking so long? It has been sitting here with no signal for about 20 minutes and am getting a little nervous. I have never unlocked my iphone in the sense of taking it to another carrier. Anyone have any ideas?

I can confirm that appinstaller.exe for 1.0.2 will do the trick here.
I downgraded from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 and used appinstaller.exe to jump out of DFU mode.

I don't think the baseband is functional when you go from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1, but you don't need it to upgrade to 1.1.2 and jailbreak (assuming you have Wifi).

From there I used jailbreakme.com, prepared the phone for 1.1.2 jailbreak, updated to 1.1.2, and then ran 1.1.2-jailbreak.

See post above regarding you activation problem. I don't think you can activate it in 1.1.1 after downgrading from 1.1.2. Note that you probably don't have an Edge signal.

ok, I have 1.1.1 up and working minus the phone being activated. I went to install that OKPrep thing under the Tweaks 1.1.1 in Installer.app. I am now updating it to 1.1.2. I am hoping that now once 1.1.2 is installed, I will be able to use the phone as a phone, as well beable to still jailbreak it using jailbreakme.com. Fingers Crossed

ARGH!!!!! well, 1.1.2 is on and working. I can call out and everything. The only thing that is happening now is the fact that I am unable to load the TIFF image that causes the exploit to kick in and run the installer through jailbreakme.com. I am going to figure out this later on tonight and try to downgrade it back to 1.1.1 or maybe even 1.0.2, then upgrade it to 1.1.1 then run the Prep program. what a hassle. I should have just waited to update it to 1.1.2 for a little longer. But Im sure many of you are just like me and have to tinker with things to be content. I guess it gives us something to do. lol

You shouldn't have any problems activating it after upgrading to 1.1.2.

You won't be able to use jailbreakme.com though.
