Thumbs up 1.1.2??? Don't Panic!! THEORY!!! POSSIBLE SOLUTION?!?

First of all, if we can still downgrade to 1.1.1 then half the problem is solved.
and don't i remember hearing that iNdependence doesn't use the TIFF exploit to jailbreak so there is still hope!!
AND FINNALY the iPhone is coming to France UNLOCKED! so cant we just get the french firmware file and restore our iphones with it thus unlocking them?? and 1.1.2 adds language support so it will be in french but can change it to english?!?!?

    Make Sense?!?!?!?!?

iNdependence used the symlink method. The TIFF exploit may be fixed, however, I honestly doubt if they can fix the symlink, unless of course they fix it in iTunes... but then how hard is it to downgrade iTunes.

I do not think 1.1.2 (or whatever it may be versioned) will be substantially different from 1.1.1. There are several reasons for that:

    1) They cannot keep changing the protocols (activation and upgrade) and file formats every month. It is a software development nightmare. The code becomes complex (compatbility issues) and testing is heavily impacted. One thing is to hack code - it's usally quick and dirty code - but to write something that will be placed on customers phones? Apple needs to be very careful with that.

    2) 1.1.1 was released just one month back, and my guess is that Apple folks assumed it would take the more than the 1 1/2 week it took for it to be cracked.

    3) A quick look at 1.1.1 shows that it's a work in progress version of the FW that will be released later this month, supporting operators other than AT&T. The code is partially network configurable, but part is still locked to AT&T idiosyncrasies. So Apple has a lot to test before they release the next FW and asides from fixing some minor stuff like the TIFF exploit, they have already used whatever they had in stock for the short term.

    4) They issued 1.1.1 because they needed to convince their new partners in the EU that they are serious about the exclusive distributor deal. Not to mention pressure from AT&T. So to make it attractive they have released the "new locking" and the new "features".

    5) They will have to entice users to upgrade to the new FW, and that requires new features. If the FW is downgradable, then there will be no rush for the upgrade. Now that AnySIM screwed up seczones are fixed, the only risk is Apple closing the IPSF's RSA exploit, but then complain to IPSF.

    6) They may upgrade OS X and leave the baseband firmware alone. That will make things easier. But baseband upgrades are more complex and more difficult to develop and test. And if it changes the upgrade process, it's harder to fix in case they do something wrong, so they need to be 100% on the safe side with the testing.

So my guess is that the next FW will not be hard to crack. But do not count on that for other upgrades.

You don't need to quote his whole post just to write that you agree with him.

why are people already putting their 2cents about the 1.1.2 upgrade...every forum i go to some one is panicing about it. Why not just wait until fridays UK launch and wait til the upgrade is released. I know he dev team will upgrade a phone or two to see what happens if it breaks the unlocks and what not.

People just wait and see what they say and dont start panicing over nothing right now. and one thing DO NOT UPGRADE until the dev team or some other reputable source says its ok to do so.

Im predicting another 1.1.1 fiasco with people jumping the gun and upgrading like morons.........

I wonder how thats going to play out? Is that going to be possible? If thats the case T Mobile customers can download German firmware and have T Mobile iPhones as well? I'll have to see that to believe it.
