Default [1.1.2/1.1.3 OTB UK] Buying from O2

If I decide to get a UK iPhone, is it so that it can only be activated with the SIM card that comes with the phone ? Can I use any regular O2 contract SIM ?

Was thinking of keeping my number ( am currently on Orange ) and moving to O2, I guess it would be one way of escaping the ' will there be a x.x.x unlock ? ' waiting.

But I don't know how this works with iPhone activation etc...

My prediction on delivery date for 1.1.3 was right on the money! - Jan 15th 8 pm CET - Who doubted me?

    Hi tiny_r

    Thanks for the tip.

Perhaps my original post is very confusing hence let me reword it: If I buy an iPhone from O2 UK, will they let me keep an existing number from another provider ?

Port your Orange number over to an o2 Simplicity plan. It's 02's sim only deal and you can cancel after 30 days. No long 18 month contract etc.

And then jailbreak ? Instead of handing over hard earned money to O2/Apple ? Sounds like a good idea !

or you could ring orange, get your sim-transfer number off orange (doenst cost anything)

then use that number in the process when signing up for hte contract, and then you dont need to worry about a software unlock (which by the looks of things is never gona happen till 1.1.9)

then all you need to worry about is jailbreak so you can stick 3rd party apps (or if the SDK allows free apps, dont need to worry about jailbreak at all) on the phone

no need to worry about bricking your phone if they release a new firmware, becasue your phone can still be used, you just wont have the 3rd party apps installed anymore
