Yes, please help somebody. I have the same problem:
I moved my broken Macbooc's Leopard system disk to the Mac Mini of my wife and when I wanted to sync my jailbreaked 1.1.2 iPhone, iTunes asked me whether I want to add a new iPhone or recover an existing one. I decided to recover and everything went fine, but the previous memory space from my music collection stayed occupied, although the music on the iPhone is no longer accessible.
How can I reset (or delete) just the memory, without having to do all the hazzle with jailbreaking etc. again? Thanks for any help.

SSH in and use this command (it will delete all your music/videos/Extra-Ringtones inside)
rm -R /private/var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/*
Then you just need to re-sync with iTunes

Thanks A LOT for your prompt answer!
I have ssh installed, but can you tell me how I do invoke this? I guess you mean to invoke it on the phone?
