1.1.1 finally getting SMS from provider, but scrambled?
I just updated to 1.1.1 (re-flashed 1.02 and used IPSF to fix it) and then independence to do the rest. Anyhow with 1.1.1 I'm finally getting provider messages, and other messages, such as a reminder from my dentist and domino's telling me it's on the way.
Anyhow, they say who it's from, but the message itself is scrambled or in a bunch of odd random characters? Anyone with any knowledge know what's going on and maybe how to resolve such issues? I'm on Tesco Mobile in the UK (piggybacks off o2).
Cheers.

Similar Situation
I am in Trinidad and have an IPSF unlocked 1.1.1 done with Independence as well.
Here is my situation after upgrading:
When inserting the bMobile sim I used for the unlock this is what happens. Eventhough voice mail is all set-up, the calls NEVER get to voice mail. When the iPhone is turned off, callers get a recording I'm out of the service area and can not leave a message. When the phone is turned on, it just rings endlessly and leaving a message is NOT AN OPTION.
HOWEVER when I use my husbands bMobile sim EVERYTHING WORKS - even the voice mail notifications.
Could it be the lockdownd file ????????
If at first you don't succeed, don't try skydiving

Overall I think maybe this is only with o2 then? Anyone else on any other networks getting so-called 'flash SMS' on 1.1.1, and if so are they blank or scrambled or what?

I'm not sure about your provider, but on mine you can ring a number that will disable voicemail all together, and of course there's one to enable it. Is it possible yours is completely disabled on the network end? Just a thought. Don't think it's a file on the phone per se since it's supposed to be the network that handles voicemail, not the phone. Some people don't know they have new voicemail on iPhone's and that is likely the phone's fault, but at minimum the voicemail service still works. I think you should check your network settings or ring them up.

I'm on Orange UK and started receiving texts from my bank when I upgraded to 1.1.1. Just like yours they are garbled - only the first few characters of the sender are legible.
The biggest issue with 1.1.1 is that I no longer get the little red dot alert when I receive voicemail.

OFFTOPIC: Maybe Mr.Jobs removed the red dot for some smart reason.

O2 Germany sends SMS with GPRS ( EDGE in Iphone ) configuration script , which will not suit iphone ...thus u see it as a nonsense sms .
I had this twice ...I called hotline and told them I use iphone and to stop sending the f**ken sms ... and so they did :-)
in some cases , this will prevent access to the SMS.app ... to go arround this the file sms.db should be trashed and iphone rebooted ..a new file will be generated and access to sms.app will be accepted . but this action will erase all ur sms database.
