Default [XVIDCore library] ported to Iphone looking for UI developers

    Hey Guys,

I have ported XVIDCore to Iphone. I'm looking for someone to help with UI development as Objective-C is still pretty foreign to me. At this point it is decoding frames and outputting as separate image files. No audio yet.

If you know Iphone UI programming and are interested, please e-mail me at admin at collinmeyermusic dot com .

That's the best news I've read for a long time! Very glad, that someone is finally working on making xvid/divx available on the iphone. I hope you will find someone for the UI and when it's done I will donate for sure. How long do you expect this project to last (weeks, months...) ? Thank you very much!

Yes it's software decoding. It seems pretty fast already... but no audio yet.

As for the timeline for a release, I have no idea yet. I need to do a little more research about how to sync the audio thread, and some other stuff. If no one wants to help with UI, I'll just haphazardly put one together myself Probably the best way for me to learn anyway.

    Hi!

I am pretty interested in this topic and I have some further questions concerning this:

How could the decoded video be shown on the iPhone display?
Direct via frame buffer or are there any video interfaces provided?
When using the first method there is a further problem for videos that do net exactly match the iPhone display resolution: they have to be scaled in software, which is slow.
There is definitely a hardware scaler built-in, but can this one be used for any other videos except for native h.264 videos?

    Hi mincequi,

I think that hardware graphics acceleration is more seemless using the UI Frameworks than a lot of people realize. I don't think we need framebuffer support, as I think blitting to a UIView will be sufficiently fast, and already scaling will be hardware accellerated. Scaling images in UIImageView is very simple.

I never found a UI developer to help with this, but have dug into the framework code and am feeling pretty comfortable with it now. I'm still working on separating the video content from the audio content to feed to the video codec and audio codec, and how to interleave all of that and stuff. That is the real challenge right now. As soon as I have minimal playback functionality from a UI I will start a google code project so people can contribute if they wish.

will u marry me...no homo. this is exciting stuff. Looking down the road would this mean the videos could work in the native iPod app or would we need to use another app all together?

I am fairly good with photoshop so I could probably help with the actual designing of buttons/etc, but I have no idea how to put it into the app.
