I've got a WM 5 pda, with quite similar hardware to iPhone, and it's soooo worse. It keeps crashing on me all the time, it doesn't work as smooth as the iPhone- especially internet browsing, I won't even mention doing that while listening to music. The only task I use it for is GPS navigation. The difference in reliability of Windows Mobile, and OS X on iPhone, is even bigger than OS X vs Windows on computers.
However I think that eventually we get some emulation of WM6.. FreeFSB is very powerful platform, and I believe that one day, we even run, early versions of OS X on our iPhone!

Go read a wikipedia article on processor architectures and get back to us on that one, okay?

...anyway, I do think it would be interesting if someone took a crack at it. Not emulation, but actually running WM6 on the iphone. I would start with Windows CE platform builder, you can get it for free (time trial), but the OS's you compile don't expire. It would be a matter of delving into the iPhone's hardware and picking out the right drivers. I don't honestly think that the OS itself would be the issue, it would more so be the bootloader that would keep us from doing it.

It's pretty funny that this is coming up, as the first thing hackers love to do to any device is shoehorn linux into it. Now, with the iPhone essentially already having linux (yeah, I know it's UNIX, save your rant for someone that cares ) on it, I guess people are just so desperate for that OS hacking that we've turned to Windows (gasp).

yup, the bootloader would be the biggest hurdle..then you would have to find the right drivers...not to mention that releasing it would lead you into big trouble...

    But ANDROID should be intresting

well in wm6 cant you not only run excel and pdfs but you can create them as well and I think microsoft word is more robust at creating text documents than text editor. and wm6 has a lot more 3rd party apps. Like remote desktop combined with the "file transfer" feature. The problem is you have to pay for these apps, no donation buttons. Actually, I used my cousins mogul and it was pretty cool. I'm not saying one os is better than the other. But it would be sweet to be capable of dual booting both operating systems. So, I can use the advantages each one has. But I think you will have to redo windows media 6 from the ground up to get it to work with that samsung processor. Of course, I could be wrong.

Oh and it works with powerpoint as well, I dont remember if you can create powerpoints or not though.

Office documents were supported for so many platforms already (e.g. Symbian, PalmOS). I think the biggest one is Datawiz.
I expect them to release one form the iPhone also as soon as the development is official...
