Default Viewing and reading PDF in landscape ???

    Hey there,

does anyone know of a way to view/read PDF-Files in landscape mode? i really like the PDFviewer. But to get the pdfs in a readable size i would need to see the pdfs in landscape mode to not scroll from left to right and wait for the image to sharpen all the time...
hope anyone knows of a solution or someone that might be able to come up with a solution (-:

    thanks for your help,

There's programs around to rotate PDF files, i think, as long as your PDFs aren't DRMd.

Have a look on google. I would have recommended Foxit, but that doesn't seem to let you save them after rotating.

    Well,

that doesnt help at all. i dont want to rotate my pdf... that would actually make the whole situation worse, cause i had to horizontal scroll even more... i rather need an app on my iphone that let's me switch my iphone in landscape mode and view an pdf as it is. comparable to how it works in safari on the iphone. that lets me just zoom in a little closer without the need to scroll horizontally all the time.

thanks though that you took time to think about a solution.
by all those views it seems like im not the only person who would profit from such an improvement to the pdfviewer...

    take it easy,

    There is no solution.

I thought about converting my PDF into the ebook reader format (html). Seems to be the smarter solution at the moment.

You can read pdf files locally in Safari which makes the landscape viewing possible. In order to open them from iphone local directory you need to install lighttpd (ported web-server) and tune up its lighttpd.conf file to enable dir-listing for default /var/root/sites. You can create subdirectory pdf for instance.
Copy pdf files to the iphone directory and open the folder in Safari (http:/127.0.0.1/pdf/) You will see the list of pdfs, choose one to open.
The more easier solution is ispit (another small web-server), no need to config anything at all.

That sounds like a helpful solution until the pdfviewer will support the landscape mode. if ever.

Do you have any hints on converting the (very large) pdfs in html and subdirectories etc... (before i start experimenting for hours).

    thanks for all your efforts,

I use lighttpd, and everything works fine, except it seems to me that the files I put in /var/root/sites are stored on System, not Media partition, so I can't have as much of them as I want. Can I somehow put PDFs on Media partition and open them in Safari via lighttpd?

mnplight has a built in file browser for all partitions. So, if you store your pdfs music or videos through winscp or the file download plugin or some other source onto your media partition. You can view it using the mnplight. "You click on the mnplight icon on summerboard, it opens the mnplight ui in safari, and you click on the file browser icon. It usually brings you to the root directory, so I created a folder there called "My Media and Documents." In there I have symbolic links to certain folders from my media partition and I called them 'My Documents,' 'My Downloads,' 'My Movies,' My TV Shows,' 'My Music,' 'My Music Videos,' and 'My Pictures.' So, its all neatly organized. You click on a certain file and if safari can handle it, it plays or opens. I rather use this rather than the other options because mnplight has a lot more features and I rather not pollute my disk with single use programs that can be accomplished by multiuse programs.

In MobileMail.app attachment, the PDF file can be viewed in landscape. Also works for MS Word/Excel file attachment.
