Default Is there any way to bypass iTune when transfering music?

I have been very used to drag and drop to put musics on mp3 players, the iTune is definitely cumbersome to me, wasted a lot of resources, slow down the whole computer and yada yada yada.

Anyway, I was wondering is there anyway to bypass iTune to put music on ifone? I change my musics very frequently, so a quick drag-&-drop approach will be very convenient.

Not with the stupid way Apple made the iPod library work.

The actual files are names like F42.mp3, and their names are stored in an xml file that associates the name with the file.

Ah man, that sucks, only other mp3 players I know have the same sucking rules are toshiba gigabyte, on which you can install rockbox though, and an epson 4gb player 2 years back.

But thanks for letting me know, guess I'll have to bear with it.

I would be interested in creating a Win app that can do this, I absolutely hate using iTunes to manage my music library. I would probably code this in .net 2.0 VB or something would anyone else be interested in contributing to this effort?

That's great! I don't know programming in .net and VB but I can definitely test the program

I'm also anti-itunes, but writing a new interface to the iphone is somewhat cumbersome. The DB file exists on the iPhone at:

    /var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB

I copied this file to my PC and tried to read it with libitunes. It partially worked, but there were issues. It looks like there have been some changes to the db version which a few hours of reverse engineering ( and this site ) would probably resolve.

The next problem is to get the media files to the iPhone. I'm no win32 developer, I do *nix, so transferring files over USB to the iPhone is a bit mysterious to me. I could probably write some app to grok the XML, and a ssh-based somethingorother to ( very slowly ) copy stuff to the phone over wifi, but that's not exactly ideal.

thanks for the tip I have some good ideas to implement. I think an alternate sync app would be good and would allow the community to breathe a bit easier for those of us who software unlocked our phones. At least for me I always worry about syncing with iTunes. Ive started the shell app I could definitly use a graphic designer who can do glass effects to help with the GUI also need feature ideas and testers I'll set up a project page shortly probably on my dev network site
