Default Is there another app besides iTunes to manage you iPhone?

Because I hate iTunes with a passion. And to make matters worse iTunes crashed my computer this after noon and, upon reboot I was greeted with this:

How in the hell does it lose my whole library? I looked in all the folders for a data backup and all of them are blank. I fucking hate this program.

Look for MNPlight, it's in a very early beta-version but one day...

    Today you can already:
    - import, export calendar files
    - import, export adressbook
    - browse and open file through safari (web file browser)
    - import mp3 to your iPhone (thanks to scp it works over the air)
    - play web radio (.pls format)

and a lot more to come (^_^)

Better just to backup your library. You can find it under My Documents\My Music\iTunes. I back mine up every week.

Not really an answer to your question, but a response... I think there should be a whole different player made for the Iphone, so it doesn't have to use the weird library scheme. Something that plays mp3, wma, mp4a, and eventually maybe things like divx/xvid etc.

In my opinon, iTunes works pretty well with the iPhone, never had problems.
I use iTunes with Windows Vista and OSX (Tiger and Leopard) and same thing: no problems, using V 7.4.3 and 7.5 (works fine with unlocked 1.1.2/4.02.13_G iPhone but not recommended for usage with INDependence, etc.).

One reason I like the iPhone is the iTunes Shop. I purchase TV shows and music from the US Shop, it costs me only 99 US Cents or 1.99 USD. Since I'm from Germany and the current exchange rate is somewhere around 1.43 USD for 1 Euro, this is pretty convenient for me.

The quality of the music/TV shows/videos purchased in the iTunes shop is very good and "fits" the iPhone perfectly. I know that many people don't want to use iTunes with the iPhone because they want to use their own media files with it (incl. pirated stuff ) but for this purpose, there are better media players out there with more capacity. I also have an Archos 504 with 160 GB HDD.

That said, I think that people need to understand that iTunes is an essential part of the iPhone, not only for buying stuff but also for updating/error recovery. If you want to have a peace of mind, get used to it, relax and try to see the bright side of iTunes.
99 US Cent for a favourite song or 1.99 USD for a favourite TV show episode is not much money in my opinion and it saves me the hassle to look/download it from a torrent/whatever. To each his own I guess but iTunes isn't as bad as people want it to be. The only concern I have is that sooner or later, Apple may "block" unlocked/jailbroken iPhones from using iTunes. I still hope however that they're not THAT dumb to p.ss off their customers who pay money for their media content.

Regarding "lost" files: a backup is ESSENTIAL for ANY kind of file which is important to you. If somebody is dumb enough not to do a backup...well...bad luck I guess.
I know a guy who bought over 2000 songs and over 100 TV show episodes on iTunes and after installing OSX Leopard (incl. some huge problems), he wasn't able to recover them.
Now guess what: no backup, he was crying on the phone. I rushed to his place to see what I can do but I wasn't able to recover much of his library since he formatted the HDD once and installed Leopard several times(!) because of the issues he had, incl. some crashes (RAID setup).
I contacted Apple through a friend in the US and although they were very friendly and offered their help, there was no way to recover even 95% of his library, Apple just let him download a couple of the latest TV shows/songs he purchased over the past four weeks. Better than nothing but this is a lesson for life: ALWAYS have a backup of your files. The easiest way is to copy them to a USB HDD, 1 GB USB units are pretty cheap right now. Or get a 300 GB USB 2.5'' HDD like I have for my most important stuff, it is portable and light.

Get a decent computer! I used macs all my life, never had a problem like that. I used a win pc since 8 years also, never had a problem like that. So don't blame Apple. Flame your microsoft friends and the ppl that write malware and stuff.

Those are not suitable suggestions, its obvious that iTunes runs poorly on Windows as opposed to on Macs. I'm not sure how the library schemes work on PCs but iTunes works fine and logically on my Macs.

I fully support a different program on PCs because that will trickle down to better alternate apps on the Macs as well. As much as I like iTunes I would prefer something less bloated to manage my iPhone. It could easily access iTunes playlists just like iTunes accesses iPhoto playlists.
