    Question SMSD Template Question

    I have about 180 phone numbers that I would like to send weekly texts to. The numbers are all typed out nicely on my computer, but most of them are not in my phonebook on my iPhone. I would like to create a Template in SMSD with all the phone numbers already typed in the "To:" field, each separated by a comma. The problem is that it's a lot of numbers, and it would be so much easier to just create a template file on my computer, cope/paste all the numbers in there, and then upload it to the SMSD.app directory on my phone.

    One of the files in the SMSD.app directory is called "SMSDTemplates.plist". I figured this was the right file to edit, I opened it up and this is the code I found:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <array>
    <dict>
    <key>templateName</key>
    <string>Example Template</string>
    <key>contactNames</key>
    <array>
    <string>Amrut Joshi</string>
    </array>
    <key>contactNumbers</key>
    <array>
    <string>example</string>
    </array>
    <key>text</key>
    <string>This is an example template. Using templates you can create groups of contacts. Templates can have just the contacts, just the text or both. You can create new templates by tapping on 'Send' and then 'Save as template'. Templates can be deleted by going into the Templates screen and tapping on 'Edit'.

    (This is fake template and send should fail for this one!)
    Thanks,
    -Amrut!
    </string>
    </dict>
    </array>
    </plist>
    This looks like the Example Template already included in the Template section on the phone. I tried editing this file and putting in my own list of phone numbers in the "<key>contactNumbers</key> <array><string>example</string></array>" where the word "example" is. But for some reason this doesn't affect anything. In the iPhone, it still has the default contact "Amrut Joshi" with none of the numbers I put in there.

    I know this is a new program, but does anyone have an idea as to how to do this?

    Why dont you create your own template with a few numbers and see what is created or changed? Then you can edit that file/place with the rest of your numbers.

    You and I think alike! I did this exact thing, gave it a new name, and then looked in the SMSD directory. Nothing new there. The SMSDTemplates.plist file looked exactly the same, with all the example text in there. It must be putting new templates in a different directory on the phone and not anywhere in the SMSD.app directory. Does anyone know where that might be?

    Thanks for the quick reply!

    Hi Guys,

    I'll check my version to see if this has been sorted or if it's a bug.. Can anyone else provide their experiences here too please and I will pass onto Amrut.

    UPDATED

    Templates are not saving to the Templates folder for me... Need to report this as a bug.

    Cheers.

    Not really a bug.

    wildonrio:
    Change the SMSDTemplates.plist in /var/root/Library/Preferences not the one inside /Applications/SMSD.app

    umm yea it's a bug, it should save the templates into the Templates folder listing and it's not... it's been reported as an issue anyway ; )
