SSH to your iPhone using Putty or Terminal and run the following commands:

    1) mv /Applications/MobileSMS.app /Applications/AppleSMS

    2) cd /Applications/SMSD.app

    3) cp Info.plist Info.plist.smsd

    4) pico Info.plist

    Edit the following line:

    Code:
    <string>com.amrut.iphone.SMSD</string>
    To have instead:
    Code:
    <string>com.apple.MobileSMS</string>
Save and exit pico by doing the following: CTRL + O (to save Info.plist file) and CTRL + X to exit pico

Now restart your iPhone, when a new SMS notification comes up on screen hitting "View" will load you into SMSD. Please make sure you have enabled the SMS Notifcations for SMSD.

This can be done by opening SMSD, selecting the MORE button, then select Preferences, then toggle the "New SMS notifications" to ON. This all works great for me, hopefully it will for you guys as well.

Good news is next release should have conversation view like apples SMS app!!! and more UI Fixes

Post back your issues etc while using SMSD as default using my method above.

    Cheers,

    Mark

    Hey,
I don't know about the smsd helper put you still have to put the plist file in the LaunchDaemons.
    thanks

    Smile Some Suggestions

    hey iphonedev,
can you request to amrut to add these 2 features of the default mobilesms.app-
    1. Call the person from whom the message is received by a call button
    2. Get the contact info of the person from whom the message is received.

And a suggestion, if you are thinking of implementing the bubble chat view just add the two buttons on the top for call and contact info as in default mobilesms.app.
Another suggestion, if you can add a trash box so we can restore a deleted message if we delete it by mistake.
    thanks

    Thanks for trying this guys,

I will be sure to report to Amrut, he also checks this forum so don't worry too much.

as for the LaunchDaemon question YES, This still needs to be in /Libraries/LaunchDeamons/ otherwise notifications cannot be sent to SMSD through the CoreTelephony Framework.

As for the SMSDHelper, if you make SMSD the Default SMS App then you do not need to worry but for the sake of completeness put that file into the MobileSMS.app folder prior to following my guide.

Just means its easier should you wish to switch back to using Apples SMS app.

    To revert back do this:

    SSH your iPhone.

    enter the following command:

    mv /Applications/AppleSMS /Applications/MobileSMS.app ; mv /Applications/SMSD.app/Info.plist /Applications/SMSD.app/Info.plist-save ; mv /Applications/SMSD.app/Info.plist.smsd /Applications/SMSD.app/Info.plist

Once that is done restart your iPhone and you will have Apples SMS App back + SMSD as secondary SMS App.

    Cheers,
