OK, thats not the issue then.

However, lets wait until the time change takes effect shortly (ugh) and see what the offset is then.

i can confirm that sometimes time of incoming sms are off (unlocked via iUnlock, t-mobile prepaid SIM installed now). however, this only happens occasionally, even in the same conversation.

I have the exact same 4 hour time delay. I am using Rogers in the Toronto area. Same delay if i text my gf from downstairs to upstairs or my friend in College out West.

Ok I think I just figured out a temp fix for this issue with the wrong timestamp!!!

I just tested this and it works ... it has to do with the DST.. for some reason anyone that is in the EST. time zone from what I can gather gets this issue... now I've tried turning of the network time.. but for some reason the iphone still continues to display 4 hours behind.. so I got thinking .. If I changed my time zone to something that was GMT+5 would this fix the issue with the 1 hour for DST and nope... no go.. it really did just ad 4 more hours... so I figured it out... we need a timezone that doesn't have DST and is GMT+0

so here you go.. try this... chose any of these time zones or cities i should say:

I used Rabat, Morocco and tested with my G/F who also uses an iphone and we are both on Rogers in Canada.

Ok so turn off automatic update... chose Morocco as the time zone and manually set the correct time and this should solve the in correct timestamp until a better solution is put together...

    Set Automatically = OFF
    Time Zone = Rabat, Morocco
Set Date & Time = Manually

Calendar Time Zone Support = OFF

    Lighter

Let me know if this works and here is the list of places with no DST and GMT +0.

    Burkina Faso
    Bouvet Island
    Côte d'Ivoire
    The Gambia
    Ghana
    Greenland
    northeastern
    Danmarkshavn and surrounding area
    Guinea
    Guinea-Bissau
    Iceland
    Liberia
    Mali
    Mauritania
    Morocco
Saint Helena (including Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha)
    São Tomé and Príncipe
    Senegal
    Sierra Leone
    Togo
    Western Sahara

When receiving incoming sms's, the time it is received is wrong. However, when sending them out, they are right.

    Thanks.

I have the same problem, sometimes the time on the received SMS's are correct and sometimes they are hours wrong. I have tryed the above solution, now I just have to receive SMS to see if it works.
But why is his happening at all?

I use to get a txt with rogers as well when I use to get a voicemail but with the iphone I don't get it either anymore.. must be how the phone interprets the voicemail waiting msg. but the above solution will fix your txt msg timestamp for sure!

It has spmething to do with the how the iphone determins network time... I know the Sony Ericsson w300i (rogers branded) even has the same problem... it has something to do with the device not being able to obtain the correct timestamp for some reason or another ... could be an issue with rogers or it could be the firmware on the device.. who knows... but I am happy to know when I got my msg ... and not have to guess .. =)

    Good job lighter!

This worked for me, although it did have the consequence of messing up some of the other timestamps, such as emails and my outgoing sms messages. So it basically fixed all the wrong times and made the right times wrong, however, going forward from this point it should all be fine.
