Just for your info, the "sent time" of an sms is determined by the time clock of the Cell Operator which the sender of the sms sent the the message (not the time that is set on the sender's cell phone). This also means that if you are in NY for instance and the sender is in LA, then the time you see should be PST time. However the iPhone sometimes (or always, in the case of some users) displays the wrong time..

This needs to be investigated further

I'm fairly certain this is an ATT/phone-related issue. I have unlocked both the blackjack and the iPhone from ATT. In both cases all SMS timestamps are correct when using ATT sims (eg. ATT SMS relay) and again in both cases the time is off by exactly 4 hours (message timestamp is 4 hours prior to actual time) when using Rogers SIMs. I have tried upgrading to 3G SIMs and it makes no difference.. also there are many unlocked ATT Blackjack users reporting the exact same problem.

Interestingly one of the fixes was to switch SMS readers on the blackjack to a reader that uses local time of receipt as opposed to timestamp.

This happens on my Razr V3 (original). There will ocassionally be a 2 hour time difference. I am using T-Mobile USA. I dont think its an iphone bug probably a carrier problem. Maybe have something to do with roaming?

OK, everyone on Rogers is having a 4 hour difference? By any chance, are you all in Ontario/Quebec?

And therefore on Eastern Time? Which, due to summer time, at the moment is 4 hours off of GMT.

So, the phone is taking the message time and "realizing" that it has the GMT time and subtracting 4 hours to give you the actual time. Of course actual time isn't -4 hours.

I've had this problem for years now with various Nokias that I've gotten. And the last one was basically the first actual Fido phone I'd had since I started my service, it displayed time correctly.

Nope, I have the 4 hour difference on my iPhone here in Alberta. Don't think it's about EST/EDT.

having the same issue and am on Rogers but i think it's due to the PST vs EST time zone difference. I was texting between vancouver and toronto.
