Question [SMS] How can we lift the inbox limit? Possibly by changing partition sizes?

I think that there's a small partition allocated to the SMS inbox size, but how can we make that bigger? I don't know about everyone else but I get tired of constantly getting that "almost full" warning message. And with an 8gb HD, this should never be an issue.

I just googled it and all I could find was this thread ha. I would think that if anyone knew how to do it, this site would, but I haven't seen anything.

Amazingly helpful there. Googling just gives thread results from multiple sites asking the exact same question.

This would be very useful if it is possible. I'm hitting that message every couple of days and have over 3GB free space, which just seems silly

I donīt have an answer because I donīt know.

but I wonder if it is really a space issue? is it really related to storage in the MBs or more related to numbers of SMS?

Can you confirm that the limit is around 1,000 messages?

    Thumbs up

Hmmm... I have been messing around with triggers of sqlite3, and I managed to "move" the oldest messages to another table, thus maintaining constant level of 800 messages on the main table.

What that means? I keep copy all my messages in separate space, not exceeding the limit of 1000 messages - therefore I don't get a warning.
"Moved" messages I can still access using modified WeTools, but they don't overload main "storage space".
I will test it with bigger number of SMS (if the trigger will not timeout) and will revert will my results here if no problems encountered.

Will it automove the messages? Because having to move the messages every time it gets near 1000 sounds just as annoying as getting that warning message and having to delete. I'm glad you're looking into this, I've been wanting to figure this out for months now!

If it really is a 1000 text message inbox limit, I can't believe there isn't some string somewhere in the phone that we can modify to simply change the max amount of messages. And if it's a partition size limit, it would make sense that we could make link to a folder outside the partition where the messages could be stored in another bigger partition...

Yes, that's the whole idea. And it's working without problems so far.
You don't do anything. Last 800 SMSes is kept in regular "Inbox", and the rest is automatically moved to the "archive".
I sent email to the author of SMSD, to possibly include this functionality.

It's not a partition limit. It's actually a limit within the database to keep it's performance on the acceptable level. With my solution you're independent on the changes that Apple may do in future. Apple's SMS application will simply think you have "only" 800 SMS
