Default Sendin email my POP server (SHAW)

    Good day all,

This is directed more at Canadian users, using SHAW as their ISP at home.

I have my SHAW account set up on my iPhone using POP.SHAW.CA. I can receive email just fine with no problems but I can not send email via my Shaw account.

Any one using SHAW with an iPhone, or anyone else for that matter, able to send email using their POP/IMAP account?

I am able to tx/rx with Gmail no problem using PO amd IMAP

    Thanks

    GFH

I have problems sending email with any account that isn't one of the defaults. It sens about 3/4 times :s If it doesn't work then it moves it to outbox and tries later. It seems to be getting better now.

    check the following:

    1. SHAW probably block all SMTP traffic other then theirs, if this is the case, you need to have them provide the SMTP Gateway allowed within their network to SEND email

    2. Go into SETTINGS/MAIL select your account and look for the SMTP options, check if you have SSL active, ussually no public carrier uses SSL with SMTP and iPhone defaults to it when unable to check the account uon creation. Just un-ckeck it and go back

these two tips may solve most of your SMTP problems

    GFH:

the exact shaw mail server address depends on where do you live. To find out , go to:
    http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCar...erverNames.htm

Be aware that Shaw mail will work only if you are connected to the internet through a Shaw connection (e.g. at home, or somewhere where the provider is Shaw. For security purposes they don't allow connections to their mail servers from outside the Shaw network.
I hope this helps, PM me if you want to ask more.
    Cheers

the intermitent problems with sending email is ussually related to an improper wifi connection..make sure you are at a location wher there is no interferences, this is not that you have full wifi signal, it is about interference in the area of that signal.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for the suggestions..

I have tried pop.shaw.ca and shawmail.vc.etc.etc. Both allow me to RETRIEVE email via WiFi anywhere.

I tried both POP and IMAP

But neither will allow me to send EVEN if I am at home connecting through my Shaw connection.

I do have SSL turned OFF off.

Shaw tech support was useless. I'll try again and try and get a Level 2 techie.

Gmail works great both directions through POP and IMAP. I settled on using Gmail through IMAP as it allows me to see all emails in all my folders.

    I'll keep trying.

    Thanks again

I was having the same issue and just fix it.
for some reason the iphone defaults to port 587 however the SMTP talks in 25.
in simple words put shawmail:25 in outgoing SMTP and that would do it.

It's easy, set your outgoing SMTP to: smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com

This is because, as I'm told, Rogers won't let you connect to an outside SMTP, so you have to use theirs. It works for my .Mac account.
