    Default [Request] Birthday reminder

    It would be nice if someone could make an app that gives you a reminder for birthdays..i put birthdays in for my contacts but unfortunately it does nothing to remind u..doesnt import to the calendar or give an alert/reminder..so if someone could make an app that gives an alert/reminder or even one that allows the birthdays stored in each contact to be imported into the calendar app...then that would be great..thats just IMO

    Install this source to download it: www.serverasp.net/chiafa/MMA/repo.xml
    It's not an application but a daemon.

    I just installed this daemon, same as smsnotifier, it only works when the phone is in the cradle or active, if its sleeping it does not ring the alarm, it would be nice if it shows the display not regarding if its 10AM or later in the day.

    Or to make the proper request, it would be nice to be able to set the msg(now is in italian), ringtone/alarm, and initial time for the alarm. I'm fine being able to edit these parameters in a plist at least.

    Thanks!

    Looking good.

    who wants to individually put each contacts birthday into the calendar? then in the case of having to restore/update having to do it all over again? i think not

    In case using macos and system address book as well as ical, its possible to turn on automatic birthday reminder by setting in preferences of iCal "show birthdays calendar"

    Then birth dates stored in Address book will be synced with ical.
    Sync them with Pone thats it ...

    sure enough it is possible to get it working with a workaround (syncing via MacOS and iCal) but also sure enough this is too great an investment just to have birthday reminders....
    there definitely some basic PDA/mobile phone functionality missing in the iphone. i do not know if it is lack of requirements analysis or lack of programming skill or if they just didn't care (they being the responsible people at apple)...
    video recording, sms forwarding, unread-sms-notification, copy&paste, bluetooth file transfer, birthday reminder did all work on my 3 year old motorola. there is a lot apple has to learn in the mobile phone market

    for all the people out there not yet owning an iphone:
    be sure you won't miss some basic mobile phone functionality

    regards

    It should be easy enough to update the calender with a reoccuring entry based on the birthdays from contacts via a simple sql statement.

    If I had time i would look into it. Damn just too busy these days....

    OK I am abusing this as a kind o a clipboard now

    Anway Birthdays are of course stored in the AdressBook DB /private/var/root/Library/AddressBook/AddressBook.sqlitedb which you can open with sqlite3.

    This following command gets you the contatcs with Birthdays:

    sqlite> select First, Last, Birthday from ABPerson where Birthday NOT NULL;

    in case you set the output modeto lines you will get a list similar to this:

    First = Max
    Last =
    Birthday = -598826570.000000

    actually the Birthdaytime is kind of strange. Maybe someone knows how this is safed... doesn't look like Unix time format to me initially

    So now the Calendar is saved in /private/var/root/Library/Calendar/Calendar.sqlitedb

    For a Brithday I would suggest adding information in the following tables:

    • Event (yeah a Birthday is Event right)
    • Recurrence (a birthday occurs every year, baby)
    • Alarm (wanna get informed, right ?)

    Well the Timestamps in the Event Table Look like Unix Timestamp. However when converting them with unix they get like 30 years off.... e.g. 221206200 in Unix is 04.01.1977 07:10:00 but it should be 04.01.2007 07:10:00 right.

    Ah well I'm further diggin into it when I have more time.
