Default [REQ] Wardriving tool (auto connect to open wifi)

I would like to see an application where:

You just hold your iphone (or put it in your pocket etc)
As you walk it tries to connect to all the open wifis
(priorities can be given to ones with RSSID "linksys", "netgear", "default" etc)
Then it tries to connect to a known page (e.g. google) to check if this is actually an open network or a hotspot (with redirection to pay)
If there is real internet connection vibrate/ring so you know that you found internet!!!

Sth like the hitchhiker for windows mobile!

Same here...I think this would be an awesome app.

Arguably I could even use it for work, since I could log all the people who set up wireless on our network without our authorization (and having us lock down the router).

If you just wish to locate the presence of any WiFi access points, try APlogger.

    Sounds great!
In addition: how about an app. to change your edge and/or GPRS settings? At the moment I need to change my APN via settings, depending on whether I'm using GPRS (because no hotspot nearby) or EDGE (because I'm - let's say at the airport - with a decent hotspot wifi. This in any case applies for t-mobile in germany.
