It isnt easy to add the dot to the icon... well not very easy... one way would be to add stuff to the Mail DB, as I have edited that and gotten the dots to show up, but this causes an inconsistency within the DB... I dunno if you can change it otherwise... you can probably create a whole new icon that has the notification and is basically a "shortcut" so you dont need to fuss with the original thing...

Now that I think about it, there is a table in the envelope db that is a "summary" and that is where you have Total e-mails and Unread e-mails... I dunno how tampering with that would affect the stability/functioning of the mail app... it might just change the icon and not do much bad...

RVN84, what is the format of that "Envelope Index" file? Is it a SQLite database? Or something similar? I see some SQL statements amongst the binary mess.

The icon swap/shortcut mechanism sounds good too as an alternative.

I'm really really disappointed with the iPhone-Yahoo-pseudo-push app. It's awful. I'm also willing to pay for an IMAP IDLE client, akin to Chatteremail on the Treo.

I hate my Treo -- but chatteremail is absolutely fantastic. I use my Treo as my pager, phone and PDA. I'd prefer to replace it with my iPhone, but not until it has a proper IMAP-IDLE client.

    HELP!

Chatter is my all time favorite mail client. I was on the blackberry for years and when the Treo 650 came out, I was ready for a change. If it had not been for Chatter, I am not sure I could have. The client is so flexable when it comes to notifications, folder management, displaying of email, and of course IDLE support. Didn't Palm buy Chatter?

Wow -- Palm bought Chatter? Well, that was a smart move.

I really love Chatteremail too. It's awesome. And it's the perfect Apple-app -- "It just works."

So... when can we get a similar app for the iPhone?
