New version 0.5 is available. This is strictly a release to improve stability. I noticed that in previous versions it may crash after some amount of time particularly when you lose wifi and/or edge connectivity.

Just some clarification, the check button on the popup DOES NOT launch the mail client. What it is supposed to do is force the mail client to check the server for new messages. Also, I do not plan on retrieving other mail info such as subjects etc etc. This is strictly to notify you that mail has arrived as soon as it hits the server and then you use your mail client of choice to actually view the mail details.

For people that may be having issues and want to see what the program is doing or why you may be having problems, you can turn debug log on and view logging in a file called /var/root/Library/iMapIdle/iMapIdle.log. You can view this via ssh or using the vt100 terminal app on the phone itself...

    Enjoy!

    Hi

Very nice app, thanks. Hope it will be included in one of the well-known installer repositories.

Just a note, you may want to show a link to your site in your signature, so we don't have to go back to page 1 to find it, if we don't have it bookmarked. This would also help new-comers.

Cheers, keep up the good work,

    Ben

    Hi deadstick,

Love your app. Really appreciate your effort to help the iPhone users who are looking for some way to do push email. Wondering if you can add this feature to automate the "push" email process.

Can you add as an option to automatically "check" email? I know this will shut down and restart MobileMail.app and force a pull. I believe the only issue is when for example that I am writing or reading an email in MobileMail.app. Here is the concept of what I am thinking.

When iMapIdle gets a notification when a new email arrives, it will provide a popup message for 10~15 seconds (or user selectable in Option menu). The popup will allow you to cancel "check" email if I happen to be using MobileMail.app. If not it will continue on to "check" MobileMail.app. Basically it will go through a "check" unless the user cancel it within certain amount of time. If my phone is in standby I should only get notification directly from MobileMail.app when it gets new emails. I guess this is probably the best push email solution we could get until the API is out.

I know this is probably not ideal for everyone. But for me this means by the time I get the sound notifications I know the emails are there in MobileMail.app. (Kind of like push email). let me know if this is possible to add as an option. I will be very willing to help and test any new features.

ttgol: That seems like a great compromise . . . hope it's possible.

add http://ride4.org/shai.xml to your installer sources. Check under Shai's Apps and you'll be able to install this of installer.app!

but did not work for me

I installed IMAP Idle and it was working great. I shut off mail checking from every 15 minutes to manual... went to bed. I woke up had 6 notifications from IMAP Idle and ever since then IMAP Idle has not been working.

I updated to the new version that just came out... Still not working.

Anyone know what is up? I'm on 1.1.1 using g-mail.

    Hi

Thanks, but I'd rather pick it up from the more spread repositories, like the one comes with the installer by default. Of course I can install it myself, but I will wait until the battery usage is verified, and the Mail app will be polled in a different fashion.

Love the work deadstick is putting in this project, will keep a close eye on the thread. My donation will be on the way soon too.

    Cheers

    Ben

I have the app. all set up and configured for GMAIL but it's simply not doing a thing.

EDIT - started working after a few resets.

I was wondering if it would be possible to have an option for iMapIdler to watch and see what mode the phone is currently in, on wifi or on edge, and if it is on wifi to simply not do the trick to keep things alive. Once the phone drops from wifi back to edge, turn the trick back on and then keep things alive on edge.

    Thanks
Seconded. If I forget to turn off iMapIdle when I'm at home, it promptly drains the battery in no time!
