there are packages you can install through the installer to get buttons instead of sliders, use customize

I would really like to disable slide to unlock too, it really is unnecessary if you think about it. I think we tend to forget that accidentally touching the screen with your hands in your pocket will NOT turn the screen on - the only way to turn on that iPhone is by pushing the sleep or home button. Also, only fingers can control the screen, not your keys or wallet or anything else. Now whether your hand accidentally hits the sleep/home buttons, or your keys or wallet or whatever, nothing on the screen can be controlled unless you keep your hand down there and push buttons. Who really walks around playing that much pocket pool? AND, after 2 minutes the thing will just lock again anyway.

I really don't see a whole lot of danger here, and "slide to unlock" 30,000 times a day does get a little old. It was kinda cute on June 29th, 2007, but not since then when you realize how often you do it and how worthless it is.

What programs can disable slide to unlock? Someone mentioned customize, but that doesn't do it.

I also think about that, its completely useless
its kinda cool i know, but i hate it.

EDIT: i just think about something, i do use the unlock screen to see time, new message, alerts etc.
well, why not show unlock screen when sleep button is pressed, and springboard when home button is pressed.

Have you ever been on the homescreen when you got a new text message or calendar alert? They pop up right in the middle of the screen in a blue window, just like on the slide to unlock screen. And your time and date are at the top already.

Magnetized Keys can create false/accidental selections on the phone screen.

    Magnets are best for this.

Well anyone who puts their keys in the same pocket as their iPhone has nowhere near the same respect for it that I do

Yup, my phone is not even scratched.

1 front pants pocket is reserved for it, i don't even put the earphones with it.

Left pocket: Keys, wallet, headphones, chapstick, gum/mints, anything else.
    Right pocket: iPhone
