shuold've been one of the ealriest app ever developed for the iphone ..

especially after it got unlocked .. , alot of ppl using the iphone now on various carriers .. and they cant use the voice mail (AT&T) that comes wth the it..

No i dont think its that easy, its alot more complicated than just, "if you dont answer record and save on phone"

This is a great idea! It's like free voicemail (although you would get charged for airtime). I do agree that this wouldn't be easily accomplished though.

Well, what would happen is you would have a program running that picks up the phone after a specified number of rings and records the message after playing back the greeting. On paper, it seems almost simple, but in reality, the ability to control the phone features of the iPhone through 3rd party apps is a mere dream, and for good reason, imagine if a virus had control of such things. So, in a word, no, it will never happen.

What if, you could send a call to the custom answering machine, that could be a modified VoiceNotes app that would listen from the speaker instead of the mic. Then you could name the recording like "callers-number-date-time" and good to go.
