I dont see why not, Cydia is still the same, apt is still the same and all apps still work.

Looks like there is now an app on Cydia called "AptBackup" that will create this file, allow it to be captured by the iTunes backup process, and then restore it. I'm getting it now and will try it out.

Of all the backup methods, this doesn't seem to backup the Themes folder, and I'm not sure that's even needed, but if you have themes, be sure to manually back them up using WinSCP.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I got the installed_packages.txt file over to th eroot directory but when I try to install it I get the following error:

    localhost:/ root# apt-get install 'cat installed_packages.txt'
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
    E: Couldn't find package cat installed_packages.txt

Looks like you're using single quotes ( ' ) instead of back quotes ( ` ). They look similar, but do different things. It's the same key as the more recognizable tilda ( ~ ).

Thanks for being kind. That is exactly what I was doing wrong. I ended up doing some cut and paste and intalling each program via the command line so it didn't take as long as searching for all of them and installing through Cydia. But atleast next time I'll know what I need to do. Thanks!!

When does it say "the host has not answered?"

Copying your apps from 2g->3g should be something like this:

Follow the backup process on the 2g so create the backup file with dpkg and then copy it to your drive.

Update/jailbreak your 3g, add any sources missing from cydia manually and install openSSH. SSH into the 3G then run the restore (apt-get install `installed_packages.txt`) and it should work.
