As said, run the command to back up everything before you do anything else.

I'm running winXP, if you have vista, mac or anything else.. well improvise :p

I'm using Putty for SSH and WinSCP for File Transfers.

Before you update, ssh into your phone and run the command

    Code:
    dpkg- l | awk '{print $2}' > installed_packages.txt
    As seen here:

    Log in to winscp

And copy the file to your hard drive.
    Linked for Size of Image

then open it and delete the lien name and everything above it, so something along these lines:
    Code:
    Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
    Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems
    Name
    will be deleted.

Go into Cydia, copy down all the sources you have.

Update and Jailbreak your phone. When done, go into cydia and install OpenSSH and add any sources that aren't there. I rebooted my phone at this point, not sure if you have to.

Log into winscp, and copy the file back to root (easier to get to that way :p)

Next log into putty, and navigate to root and run

    Code:
    apt-get install `cat installed_packages.txt`

It will ask you to confirm, say yes and watch. It will spit out a bunch of infomationa nd tell you when done you can check in Cydia once again:

that it's isntalled. I rebooted my phone, but a springboard restart would probably do and you have your apps back:

    Hopefully that helps some.

    Just a guess, command is

    dpkg -l

That's 'dpkg' space dash and the letter L. It look like you're typing dpkg dash space...

    that's great stuff guys thanks

    3 questions though:
1)I have few apps which require to add sources first. Do I have to add them on Cydia before running the command?
2)how to add sources using command line?
3)will that command includes Cydia updates or this will require me to run Cydia to update ?

    1) Yes.

    2) I'm sure there's technically a sources file -somewhere- but it's easier to just go into cydia and add them there.

    3) You need to run the cydia updates before it even lets you install SSH, doesn't it? In theory it would update Cydia (a few packages were like Coreutils and cydia itself in the installed_packages list)

'ls' isn't actually needed, it's just a habit I have when I create files in a CLI (be it windows or linux) to make sure the file is where I thought it would end up.
